My Gold Type Set is NOT complete!

AnkurJAnkurJ Posts: 11,375 ✭✭✭✭
Recently I purchased the final coin to complete my basic US gold type set. I have to upgrade a few and actually I want to add a few others. The one I added was the very elusive Capped Bust Quarter Eagle which seldom comes up for auction in problem free condition. This example kind of fell through my hands before, and I guess it was meant to be because it came back to me.
I will update this thread as coins are upgraded or added. Looks like im not done and will be adding more! image

Great set! Are you going to expand it to include the no motto types?

Nice set, but needs some more coins. I would add a Dahlonega and Charlotte gold coin and Type I and II $20's, as well as a NM $10 as PH suggested. You are far from finished. image

Really nice. I know nothing about gold but I would say my favorites are the Capped Bust quarter eagle and 1799 eagle.

Holy smokes! What an amazing accomplishment that all has been. Truly envious. I'm a die hard gold coin fan myself and find myself looking at my beauties daily, but those capped coins are out of sight! Congrats!

What are your collecting goals now? A Stella?

Thanks for posting the stunning photos. I'm still getting used to the CAC designations but isn't it sort of an oxymoron for the grading service to be assigning a CAC designation to a coin that does not reach an MS designation? In the old days it seems if a coin was better than others of the same grade it would eventually get reholdered at the higher grade. I still have seller's remorse for having let go of my 1808 Capped Drapped Bust quarter eagle. You were fortunate to get back the coin you referenced having passed through your hands at an earlier date.

He should also consider getting a Type 3 $1, no motto Saint, a no motto Lib $10, and a no motto Liberty $5. Also, the seven piece Liberty $5 from all seven major US mints is also a neat set.

While we are having a good time spending AnkurJ's money, I'd suggest that a few California fractional gold coins to represent the gold rush era would be neat. Many people don't like them because they are so small but that is part of their charm (pun intended). Get a good loupe and they will look huge.
