Goldberg auction stampeded by Buffalos (or at least their buyers)

The Goldbergs trumpeted the collection they were selling at their Pre-Long Beach as the finest Buffalo nickel collection they have ever handled. I finished my Buffalo set last year and am not looking to upgrade much at this point, but I wish I had had a chance to see this set. Based on some of the prices realized, it must have been a sight to see. And maybe (just maybe) nice Buffalos are showing some life. Take a look at these prices realized (w/ juice):

17-D PCGS MS65 CAC: $9775
19-D PCGS MS65 CAC: $18975 !!
20-D PCGS MS65 CAC $11500
23-S PCGS MS65 CAC $26450
24-D PCGS MS65 CAC $20125 !!!
24-S PCGS MS65 CAC $32200

The 26-S in MCGS MS65 went for $115,000, which doesn't seem outrageous but is certainly a healthy price realized. A few coins did not sell through (including the 16 DDO in MS64) but I have to think the consignor is happy. Cape or Shamika or Joe or anyone -- did you have a chance to see these? Buy any of them?

I did see these coins and the only 2 that I would have wanted would have been the 19d and the 17d.... I felt these easily made the next grade or the next grade+. If I were more liquid I certainly would have been a huge player. I also loved the 27d as this is a tough date and I made the last MS66 and sold this coin 6 or 7 years ago for 35k. I meant to tell you Jeff that the 24s that I sold you for your set is nicer in my estimation than the Goldberg coin !

Thanks, Ed -- that 24-S was one of last dates to complete my set. I agree about the 27-D -- a very underrated date.

Just think, if anyone had put away a roll of each date/mm back in the day, they would be rolling in the money today.

Of course they would be at least 110 years old now, but hey you can't have everything!

I thought they were really pretty during lot viewing. Always cool to see a set like that where just about every coin is special. I tried to win a couple of them but ended up getting blown away on most of them. I came close on the 1931-S which was nice and a date I've always liked, but still got outbid on that one too. The proofs auctioned were also very attractive. Those seemed to go for more reasonable prices.

Thanks for the link -- I didn't see the other thread. TDN's implication on the 16-DDO pretty much ran through my head but i thought i would let it pass...
Strange in that the rest of the set(based on the images and prices realized) was so well put together.

A 29-S in 65 for nearly $2.9K? Now that is crazy.
