1916 Buffalo DDO...uhh..well, what do you think?

I picked this up on Ebay a few days ago ($8.58 auction format) and it arrived today. The seller called it a "light DDO" and was referring to the date. My eyes went immediately to the clear doubling of the two large feathers and the profile (from the forehead all the way down to the bottom of the neck). If this were a "dateless" buffalo I'd bet my left coconut that it was a 1916 DDO, but the date is bold and clear with only slight doubling evident (you can see it in the pics). Absent the rest of the clear doubling, I would likely attribute it (the date) to strike doubling.
I've had difficulty photographing it, but I think I got enough of the details. The surfaces actually look natural and unmolested in hand - the pics make it look like it has been acid treated (but it hasn't been). So what do you think? Is it a different type of DDO than FS-101?
BTW - it won't grade. There is some corrosion on the rim at 7:00 that somebody tried to file away.

no way
good thing about the 1916 ddo is it is unmistakeable up until the date is virtually undiscernible
edited to add that is shelf doubling
edited to add. the doubling at the feathers and nose/lips is the first clue it isn't true doubling, it should go ccw or cw. rarely does it just go north, south, east, west etc.

I completely agree. I know it is not an FS-101. But the feather doubling is not flat - it has depth and profile doubling sure look like some of the profile doubling on other FS-101s. From what I understand, the profile doubling is not consistent on FS-101s.
In any case, I thought it was an interesting looking buff. They are not my area of expertise, but I love them anyway

8.58, no worries.
i've certainly gambled on much larger amounts. and have taken dozens of small ones under $10-20 like you did
sometimes they pay off sometimes not, kinda fun when they don't cost an arm and a leg

I paid for it with some of my Ebay bucks for this quarter, so even less worries!
