so this coin has broken the coin auction record 2x now right?
and also by auction standards is the most valuable coin in the world?
.
<< <i>Strange bidding, it was bid to 5mm and change and then the monster bid came in at 8.5mm. A 3mm jump in one bid?

Indeed... does anyone have insight into this?

of the silver coins. I'd place them well ahead of any 94-s dime or 1913 Lib nickel. But that's just me. Bigger is better. Once a dollar man, always a dollar man. Nice addition to the type set/box of 20 if he was able to snare it.

Congrats!
<< <i>Word's out? If TDN is the new owner, then congrats! I know he always admired this coin from way back. And in my mind the Child's 1804 and the SP66 1794 are the 2 biggies

What's your opinion on the 1822 $5?

Not as iconic as the best of breed 1804 or 1794 dollars. I might think differently if one survived in choice/gem unc, but that's not the case as far as I recall.
A great coin in its own right. Also on the small size when compared to the dollars. That would always hold it back somewhat. Presentation counts, and therefore
size matters, sometimes well over rarity.
This was a nice moment for them.
<< <i>StacksBowers was really celebrating big time.

Good. I owed Chris Karstedt from way back. There's no nicer person in the biz.
Hope you can put it away for some time.
I think that coin is worth upwards 15-20 million.
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

I think the unusual bidding pattern was Bruce trying to fix the "guess the PR" give-away contest.

With Dave Akers having passed away, who is the new numismatic expert behind the Pogues?
<< <i>if it were gold it would be worth more >>
If it were gold, I wouldn't want it.
Somehow I feel that it looks far different in hand. Flashy and shiny. These photos may not capture the coin at its best.
There are some good photographers on this forum. Perhaps you can arrange one of those photo contests where the coin is shipped around and the person who takes the best photo wins?
Cuz this coin should be shared with the world.
interesting history.
<< <i>The jump was intended. Once we ascertained that we were up against the Pogues, the strategy was to ensure that we shock and awed them. As it turns out, the most we were high were one increment - and it's worth one increment to be the first to break $10M

Congrats TDN!
Very nice coin.
Very cool record. You will be #1 in the Redbook Auction Prices section next year!
Just the buyers fee alone was almost $1.5 million
Tell me, is this the first $10M coin?
that coin is worth about 407 avoirdupois pounds of gold.
my oh my.
please tell me there is no sales tax.
Huge congrats, TDN.
Lance.
Congratulations TDN.
What a magnificent piece of history to won.

1) What is the incremental bid at 5 million? I would look myself but the Stack's site makes my a nervous wreck
2) Are there cut bids at this level? Were they used/exhausted?
3) What would you have done if the Pogues bid over the top of you?
Just wow. What a coin

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I'm not too proud to admit this [auctions] is a world I know nothing about. However I do know a heck of a lot about performing when it's crunch time, and preparation, being a full-time musician. It is obvious to me that Bruce aka TDN has done a ton of prep and has now reaped the grand prize for all that hard labour and countless hours devoted to this great hobby.
Hearty mazel-tov, Bruce on your awesome NEWP

Yea well, why do you think TDN had Laura do the hard work of putting in that bid???
Laura sat all the way back in the bidding room as opposed to her normal position much closer to the front of the room. But today with the wireless computer bidding who needs to be in the front?
Oh well, this time I sat near the front with my 27 year old daughter who FINALLY sat through an auction with me. This was done so she could see the auction process from the auctioneer's perspective.
