Cross over plus Variety Attribution

I have a 1944-D Walking Lib half in NGC MS67 with the hand engraved initials which is unattributed by NGC. Any perspective from the group on whether a PCGS crossover is graded more conservatively when a variety attribution is included as a part of the crossover? My perspective would be that the merits of the coin should stand on their own but I would be very interested in the thoughts of the group.

I have done many cross/variety submissions and haven't noticed any difference in grading.

This has just been my experience with a few crossovers and I still am sitting on a few that need to go. I just read there form for submitting and was surprised to read Secure Plus Crossover (Mandatory) extra 10 bucks. Now on my last submission of 2 crossover(Not Secure Plus) 1 anacs one ngc 1 variety added to the anacs coin, it came back a proof 66 1 point lower than it was, the other was a 66 cameo came back 65 without the Cameo. I truly felt the 66 was a 67 so resubmitted with some other slabs for regrade and secure plus slabs this time, the 66 came back a 67. I still plan on resubmitting the non cameo coin as I believe it should have kept the cameo. It would be interesting to hear if all crossovers now have to be submitted under secure plus? I myself prefer to send my crossovers under secure plus from now on.............Good luck image

The graders' opinions should not be swayed due to the coin being a scarce variety - they should treat every coin equally.

Like you said, the merits of the coin should stand on their own.

I never felt PCGS graders paid any attention to the special variety printed on the NGC/ANACS label, or if the PCGS graders even noticed the label. Certainly PCGS has slightly different standards in determining die states, but this should not affect the grade.

I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

My experience has been that the higher the financial liability of PCGS with varieties and such, then the tougher the grading which is the primary reason I cracked out my NGC Inverted S Kennedy before submitting it.

    I'm just sayin'!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
