Thank you.

Is it in a old ANACS holder?
<< <i>Is it in a old ANACS holder? >>
yes, it is - AU55.
The reason I posted this is PCGS does not like the color and has been returned for questionable color on more than once occasion from a crossover submission.
I like it and feel it's original but was curious on what others felt before I revealed the details. Seems like everyone else likes it too.
Thanks for the feedback!
<< <i>I was trying to reframe from saying anything about the color but when I view the surfaces of the obv I say two types of toning, th edarker shade of blue on the top left quadrant doesn't seem like it belongs with the rest of the coin's toning, and it is the prettiest aspect of the coin's toning imho. or is this just my screen playing tricks with my eyes? >>
The picture is very accurate to the way the coin actually looks in hand except that it has tons of luster and cartwheel. I have never seen AT look like this.
Yes, Chris 5 over 5 with really great die cracks as Doubleagle59 pointed out. My last submission I sent it under the Secure tier with a minimum 50 grade and paid the attribution fee too but that was refunded as it failed once again.

agreed
was a no brainer MS63 with full field luster. I ended up selling the coin to Heritage in the Anacs AU55 holder for 61-62 money. PCGS is probably leery of some of these toned ANACS
coins. Can't win them all. I like the look of this 1845 AU55 but can't say for sure it's NT.
Here's an example for your attractive 1845 Quarter: Overall Grade: Attractive and Eye Appealing AU-53 (Shot AU-55) - I tend to consistently grade conservatively...
1. Preservation State: Lots of remaining Mint Luster in protected areas of fields & devices on both obverse & reverse with minimal wear on high points.
2. Strike: Well-Struck with full radial line definition in all obv stars & eagle's talons & feathers on rev
3. Luster: Strong Mint Luster where present in protected areas of fields & devices
4. Eye Appeal: Very attractive lustrous coin with pretty bronze toning (some peripheral blue on obv), with no major distracting marks except for a few hairline scratches in right obv field

I like Stuarts descriptive grading
Nice clean fields, no major distractions.
I say enjoy it for what it is.
But I should add 99% of us should vote 100% market acceptable.
Not grading this type of coin (as 'questionable toning') in my opinion, is going a bit too far.

<< <i>I like the coin as an AU 55 and I'd say the color is NT going by the single image you provided. >>
I could try and take another but know I could not improve on Todd's quality.

The wear on Miss Liberty's dress/knees looks pretty deep...
Also, is that an RPD? I see recutting at the head of the 5...
sulfur compound in the label or adhesive for the label. It's often pretty, and just as natural as old album toning IMHO, but PCGS may not want to cross over a coin that
they know the color was caused by spending time in a competitor's slab.
<< <i>the question is ... do YOU like it. you could send it in ten times and finally get it slabbed at the grade you want. but is someone elses opinion that important ? the majority of those here agree that it is a nice original coin, say you have two potential buyers, one is very happy with the look of the coin, praises its originality and willing to pay your asking price, the other calls it cleaned and artificially toned, but willing to take it off your hands for 10c on the dollar. if it were my coin, id side with the first guy >>
Oh, make no mistake about it - it's a keeper. I agree with Moldnut's observation that the overdate variety is more widely seen currently.
I was just a bit puzzled as to the questionable color as I have seen the look before in graded holders. I agree that on a raw submission it may have a better shot. I'm gun shy now to crack it since I sent in a few times with the same results; so I'll enjoy as is. I just wanted to see what other more experienced members felt about it.
Thanks to everyone and Happy Holidays!!
