1907 Saint High Relief at Melt? ICG AU50 "Details"

s4nys4ny Posts: 1,594 ✭✭✭
Here is a 1907 Saint High Relief in an ICG holder with AU50 details - damaged/cleaned. Sold for approximately
melt price with free shipping. Seller has 6 feedbacks. Looks like some tooling under Liberty's feet. Perhaps some gold
is missing.

It sold for $1750 and apparently the buyer has relisted the item and now it has bids up to $4000.

That one just fell off of the turnip truck. Think the story was hard to take for most.
As much as I like a good deal I wouldn't touch that one.

The coin had a reserve price of $8000 and got a high bid of $4050.

Only 6 feedback selling a coin like that? Run Forest - Run!

And the sellers name alone should give one pause.

The story of it being found in a basement to me is very hard to believe-especially for a slabbed coin of such high value. If it had been a bunch of raw Wheat cents, that's a different story but we're talking a coin worth high four-figures here that's been slabbed.

The "No PayPal" line and low feedback score basically seals the deal for me not wanting to bid on that. If the buyer actually received the coin at that price though, then it would be a huge bargain (even double that would be a bargain!).

The seller just happened to find it in the basement and sells it without a reserve? 6 feedback's?

Look at the dates of the ebay autions:
    1. 12/08/12 auction ended at $4050 reserve not met no sale by ebayer k***n(71)
    2. 12/11/12 auction ended at $1750 sale by ebayer h***e(6)

both auctions had the same exact photos

    What does this mean......simple'
The seller k***n(71) is legit, he has this coin
The seller h***e(6) is a crook. He stole the pictures of the coin and he does not have the coin. He refuses Paypal payments so he can get a check/money order and buyer gets nothing.

I was just going to say I was confused how the coin was the exact same coin was sold on the 11th (same serial number on reverse as if the fact two different ICGS AU50 details 1907 $20 HRDE were for sale at once wasn't suspicious enough) yet listed for sale by separate buyer on the 8th .. At first I thought the current seller bought the coin from the 6 FB seller until I looked at the closing date of the sold auction.

The buyer from yesterday's auction is definitely getting bamboozled if he sends him a money order/check

Too many scams for my liking and far too easy. It's not rocket science

The seller has 34 feedbacks now, all positive. Only one feedback as a seller. That buyer notes "refund received" on a purchase
of an iPad. The recent feedbacks are mostly for purchases of DVDs. No feedback on the $1750 sale of the 1907 "details" high relief double eagle.

On Dec 21 he purchased a 3/4 carat engagement/wedding ring combo for $31 and paid with what we can assume is a new PayPal account.

Maybe he got engaged or just got lucky with some young lady who now has a new ring.

(I don't know what is worse, capitals in the middle of a word like iPad or eBay, or the backwards R in Toys R Us)

Only if it is actually made of gold. If it is plated, that's another matter.

ICG almost always gets it right when it comes to authenticity, so yes, it does look like "a steal." Even damaged like that (it may have been used for jewelry and mounted) these coins are worth at least $7 grand from what I've seen.

Yes, this is the more likely result. image

He has a feedback score of 27 and 100% positive. Someone got a 3/4 ct diamond ring that cost him $31.
He has one feedback where he was a seller and issued a refund on an iPad.

I am watching him and a Chia I got for Christmas. Something is bound to happen.

Now he has has 35 feedbacks, all positive. Oh, I forgot, buyers can only get positive feedbacks. Interesting to read some of the comments
"Oh, he never paid." Here is the most recent: Awful won't pay me for the vita he won and acts like a 10 year old."
