Now THAT is just too cool! image

But one question - how are you certain the coin is a proof strike and not just a business strike?

I love dollar love tokens but I'm not convinced that is a proof. It looks more like a harshly cleaned BS that was extremely tarnished at one point, giving it the look of a mishandled proof.

Squared Dentictles and edge of obverse vs rounded denticles and rounded edge.

Very neat. I agree, it definitely is a proof Morgan.

According to the engraving, it only had a semi-PL reverse.

neat love token, but any "proofness" of the host coin is rendered somewhat of an abstraction at this point, IMO

Saw this on eBay but I too questioned the 'proofness' of the coin. It is neat but that price I decided not to pull the trigger.

Hopefully I am incorrect and it IS a proof - that would be very cool.

    Good luck!

I believe B&M had a proof $20 love token many years ago in an auction. Sold for about $1500 if memory serves. Gold was obviously much lower at the time.

Certainly loos like a proof to me. Sometimes people overlook the obvious when coins are not perfect. I have already proven that with my proof Morgan dollar that people on this very message board deemed ugly business strike.

Doesn't look like a proof to me. But I'll admit I'm not an expert with this series.

What is this? I don't follow what a love token means.

    Hi image

A love token is a coin "made" for a loved one. Usually a smaller denomination from what I have seen than the subject coin, the coin would be plucked out of circulation when new, or uncirculated, and taken perhaps to a jeweler who might specialize in these tokens. The reverse (most often I would think) would then be abraded smooth and hand engraved with a fancy scroll work design usually composed of the initials of the loved one.
Maybe a century or so later it appears online and we discuss it. No one knows who gave it, nor who received it, beyond 2 or 3 initials and there is the date on the coin. Perhaps the jeweler or engraver is identifiable by style. The one thing that is remembered, which needs no name at all, is the love between two people that created it in the first place.
