See anything wrong with this upcoming auction lot?

Sorry, but this is why PCGS gets my business when I submit coins for grading:

It happens. I just returned an 1821 dime to PCGS to get the "small date" put on the holder where they call it a "large date".

Accidents can happen at either TPG, just seems like (in my experience) it's mostly NGC holders I see these type of problems.

it may have been submitted through heritage to pcgs and then directly consigned so the owner may not have seen. just speculation on my part.

I have an 1856 Large cent that PCGS has slabbed upright 5 when it is actually a slanted 5. It is a Rattler holder so there is a decision to be made as far as reholdering. No difference in value but it is a different coin number. --Jerry

If only this were true. Of course, it could be true for you.

I remember many years ago when my wife and I were about to buy a Dodge Colt RS. I never realized how many Dodge Colt RS's there were driving around until then since I simply never really saw them.

I have quite a few photographs of misattributed and mislabeled PCGS Slabs in my collection as itsa simply not unique to NGC. With me, its Eosenhower Dollars. The used to always mix up the 1976 Type 1's and Type 2's. I've had them even goof up some First Strike Silver Eagles instead labeling them as First Strike Status of Liberty Coins.

Wann see a 1965 Kennedy in a 1967 Slab? How about a Martin Van Buren labeld as a James Monroe?

It happens and its certainly not exclusive to NGC.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

In my experience with varieties I see far more mistakes with PCGS. Thankfully, PCGS does not charge for the fixes.

It can happen to any TPG - I have a 1958 Canadian dime in an ICCS holder that's labeled 1960!
The sheer number of coins graded make an occasional error unavoidable.

As mentioned, it happens on both sides of the house.

Sad, but luckily cheap, example that happened to me:

Had a nice birthyear Roosevelt Dime in PCGS MS65 by the label. It showed up online cert verification as MS66FB. I ended up with another, a bit nice, example and decided to get the first one "fixed" so it could be sold more easily. Not an expensive coin, even in FB, so it wasn't worth the back and forth postage fees.
Ultimately PCGS offered a grading coupon to correct it. That was nice and I figured it would offset the postage (note: I neglected to think about the postage for that 1 modern coin grading coupon that I would use....made it not really a good deal).

I sent the dime in and, a few weeks later, I got the notice it was coming back......a grade higher, but without the FB image

So, the label was off by the designation, but the online info had the designation. At the end of the day, they regarded it higher but without the designation.
I think I still have the coin as it is a cheap reminder to be careful what one does when it comes to labels........still not happy about it (cost of the coin, cost of the return shipping for the "coupon", etc).

    So, it isn't just NGC.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

And I too have seen coins that were not attributed correctly in PGGS holders. Mistakes happen and are not limited to one company.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I have a theory about this. If the submitter sends the coin in under the wrong number, lets say it's a small date and the submitter sends it in as a large date, then it is much more likely that the coin will come back in the wrong holder. If the grader has a bunch of experience with varieties of that series, it will get caught, otherwise it ends up in the wrong holder. They just don't have time to check every coin against major variety images. In cases where the variety constitutes a huge premium, then it does go thought a more stringent verification.

I think it may be as much the fault of the submitter for not knowing what he/she is submitting. Sure PCGS should catch it, but you can't expect it in every case. It's really up to the owner of the coin to be the first line of defense against mis-holdering. If the submitter doesn't care enough to verify accuracy...

I once saw a 1916-D dime in an unnamed major company slab graded Good-4, Full Bands.
