US Mint notification.....
I'm sure everyone here gets their "Last Chance" notifications, as I did today. Now, how is it
that they never put anything on "sale" with a reduced price to get rid of stock? After all, they
are just a big retail outlet, right? So, rather than give a discount at the end they would rather
just throw the leftovers into the melt pot?
I just don't understand their marketing. Drop the $5 gold to $499 and $475 for the proof and
uncirculated Star Spangled Banner coins, would encourage buyers and still assure at least a
break even if not a small profit.
Just a rant....
Move on to real things, please!

IF they did such a thing, the folks who bought at the higher price would scream to high heaven and more than likely initiate legal proceedings to get some type of a refund.
Buyers are just as weird as the US Mint.

<< <i>Why are they still selling 2011 dated product? That should have gone to the melting pot a year ago. >>
It's the government...why ask why!
Do other big mints put items in legitimate sales?

No, don't think this is so. What about those first strike collectors or those not wanting to risk the item
selling out before it goes on sale. Many that waited for a sale my just lose out completely.

Uhhhh......seems to me that a "Last Chance" sale would specifically exclude First Strike™ collectors. Or did I miss what you were saying?

Because they can...probably the same reason why they are still selling 2010 Lincoln cent rolls
Remember when they re-released the 2001 Kennedy Rolls? I took a bath on that one!

You're right, we need a Last Chance™ label for those who missed out on the First Strike™!

Come now, I really was being serious. They do have room to sell below the initial offering price and
still produce a profit. Kind of like when the new Cell Phone comes out and everyone gets on the band
wagon and signs up but 6 months later they are 30% less. If you had waited you would miss out
on any first strike labels and maybe on the frenzy grading and sell on ebay throngs, but then you
would be able to save a few bucks and get a nice example for the old collection.
Take heed, Mint, put items on sale! Reduce the prices when sales slow or drop off the cliff!
