These are the pictures of the above mentioned cent that I just purchased from Legend Numismatics. This transaction took me 5 minutes to complete with Laura. A record brief time for me and I am sure for Laura, as well.
Indeed, the coin has no spots to complain about as what appears to be spots on the reverse are variation of colors from blues to brown. On the reverse there is some near reds peeking through by the rim. This coin is a stunner! Only one bag mark on the entire coin even at 8x power scope and it is right on the cheek near the mouth. But not really visible with the naked eye. A nice technically graded 67.
This fits perfectly into my mint state type set as I try to stick with the superlative gems if at all possible. Who says there isn't fresh new material out there??
It is conceivable as to why this coin did survive. Large cents were being squirreled away as those were the "hard times of 1837."

We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
Looking for Nationals, Large VF to AU type, 1928 Gold, and WWII Emergency notes. Also a few nice Buffalo Nickels and Morgan Dollars.
Monty...
Frankly, I can't believe they dug this coin up (not literally!).
Another word ... when are you going to get its RD cousin so you won't loose the 2 points in your registry ??
I love Ike dollars and all other dollar series !!!
I also love Major Circulation Strike Type Sets, clad Washingtons ('65 to '98) and key date coins !!!!!
If ignorance is bliss, shouldn't we have more happy people ??
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
I still have the 1837 cent, now green stickered.
But I seem to have lost the pictures!
the legend archives seem to only go back to 2007 and your thread pre-dates that by 4 years
if we had a cert #, maybe?
.

Well, get to work!
A PCGS 67BN large cent? Heck, I didn't think such a coin existed. Must be a beauty.
This may help.

Notice that in the cert verification it shows that the pop is only one. Also, in my registry set, it shows a pop of one. Yet, Coin Facts shows a second one sold at Goldberg in May 2009 and shows the pop at 2 with none higher. The pop report also shows a pop of 2.
Interesting that the population report do not agree based on the report you pull up.
PCGS, any thoughts on this?

Note that this coin is attributed for its die variety (N-7) and given a different PCGS Coin Number as a result, yet remains an 1837 large cent.
ATTENTION: This is NOT the coin Oreville is discussing, but is one of his spares.
