Fellow Error Collectors - I need some more eyes and opinions

Hello all - picked this up at a local show and I think this is a dime struck on a split off clad layer but what do you think?

The piece weighs .38 grams

The metal was analyzed as nickel so that fits.

I assume the analysis indicated nickel being present. I'm sure you know that the outer clad layers are 75% copper/25% nickel. .38 grams sounds about right for a dime outer layer. For some reason, I remember a quarter outer layer being just shy of a gram. It was something I read years ago regarding a similar error. Definitely something you don't see every day, I'd submit it.

I think you are correct (detached struck outer clad layer).

Almost looks like a damaged (which could've occurred @ the mint) die-adjustment strike...

But given the weight, the theory that it was struck on different stock/detached cladding makes more sense.

Yep, that's what it looks like. I think I remember seeing one of these lately and the weight was around .38 or .39g.
I'm not surprised at the damage though as it is really thin. I would assume most of these would get a little bent up.

You're correct, it was struck on a clad layer only. The weight is spot on for this error type.
