There is a smallish (50-60 dealers) show @ the Holiday Inn at intersection of Lakewood & the 405 in Long Beach this weekend. A buddy said it would be worth my time to check it out. He was right.
I liked the relaxed feel to the place. Unlike larger shows, you didn't see dealers walking the aisles. This was a collector oriented show.
And there seemed to be something for everyone. Plenty of inexpensive raw coins. If you wanted late date Walkers in PC 4, 5, or some in 6 holders, there were a healthy amount of them available. Plenty of modern, and a handful of classic gold coins were for sale. Lots of Morgans, including a number of common date CCs in Unc., some in GSA holders.
A number of gem Mercs from the 30s and later were available, as were most proof sets from 1950 forward.
There was an EAC guy with a nice run of Half Cents, including an 1855 that I think would slab into a 3 RB PC holder. Some classic coins were available. I saw a sprinkling of type Liberty Nickels in PC 4 and 5 holders, and an 03 in a PC 6 holder. There were a handful of Liberty Nickel PF coins available in PF 5 and PF 6. I also saw an 83 Shield Nickel in a PC 6 holder, a handful of 2 Cents Pieces in various grades of BN Unc, and a few PF 3 Cent Nickels in Grades ranging from PC 3 to PC 5.
Currency, both US and foreign was available, including some older, expensive-looking US notes. I picked up several more demonetized Brasilian notes. They were in pristine condition, attractive, and couldn't go wrong at a buck each. I have most of the Cruzado, and many of the old Cruzeiro notes.
I saw an 1891 P Seated dime in a PC 5 OGH, a few Barber Dimes in PC 4 and PC 5 were available; not much in the way of Unc. Barber or Seated Quarters or Halves. A handful of Unc. IHCs were available, including an 1864 L on the ribbon in 4 RB.
A decent number of SLQs were available in various dates, usually MS 64, some FH, and a few 5s. Did see a 28 S in PC FH 6 (would have investigated further if it was a 29 S or 30 S in PC FH 6). the most shocking find at the show was a 16 P SLQ In PC FH 3.
McIntosh had a number of more expensive / esoteric coins I wouldn't expect to find at a show this size, including a 1798 Heraldic Eagle $ in NGC MS 50, and a few problem free circulated Draped Bust Large Cents. He also had a lustrous 1859 O and 1871P Seated $, the former in NGC 3 and the latter in NGC 4 holders.
He had a genuine Gobrecht $, which had pristine surfaces, but someone ruined the coin (others would say said person made it more affordable) by giving it a tell-tale purplish hue. He also had a genuine 1856 Flyer, and an attractive 1877 S Trade $ in PC 4.
Imo, he also had one of the rarest coins I've ever seen which wasn't in a museum or exhibition - an 1849 Braided Hair Half Cent graded MS 60 BN in an OGH. I've only seen one other before in all of my years of collecting. One of my dream coins is an 1849 Half Cent in PC MS 65 RB. I think three of them exist.
Didn't see Franklins, Peace $s, or Roosevelt Dimes. A handful of circulated older Lincoln cents were available, including a few 09 S VDBs. Crowd was local and cordial. Didn't encounter any people who were rude, smelled bad, were obnoxious, or any combination thereof (I often see a handful of them at larger shows).
If you like what you've read and are in So. Cal., the show is on tomorrow (Sunday), as well. Cost you $4 to get in.

Re: 1849 1/2 cents, I had one in my boyhood collection, a lovely (then) choice XF, now probably AU 58, that I regrettably sold in my adolescence. Finally, after 10 years of looking for a replacement, CRO sold me a very nice example in a PC 3 holder. A nice 1849 half cent is tough to find.

Just asking, as I have had nice sets from 1950 thru 1964 in my case (and a few original '50's mint sets) and nobody ever even asks to see them!
