Would you like to see.....

a return to the "types" of coin designs featured on our coinage in the early 20th century?
Think about the coins then as compared to what we handle now. The Buffalo 5c, the Mercury 10c, the Standing Liberty 25c, the Walking Liberty 50c, the Peace dollar, the $2.50 & $5.00 Indians, the $10 Indian, and the $20 Saint-Gaudens. AMAZING!! These coins are among the most treasured designs ever struck in history and they all occurred during the SAME relative era. It's unbelievable to me that our current coinage is so two dimensional and "lifeless". A nation as great and important as the United States would seem to be capable of SO much more.
I personally don't want to see a return to those exact designs, they are classics and they've had their day. I am speaking more about the execution of the devices and the almost 3-D relief. I understand it's impractical and difficult and vending machines would have issues....yada yada yada.
The question is, would you like to see a return to those types of designs and coins? (We know it won't happen, but I can dream right?
)
If you agree.....
Post a pic of one of the above early 20th century coins from your collection so we can enjoy some eye candy!

Let's see them folks........I'll start it off
Of course, one could also argue that using contemporary cultural iconography would result in our coins depicting a Big Mac and the Golden Arches.

<< <i>The iconography of our coins should reflect the highest standard of contemporary artistry >>
Unfortunately our current coins reflect nothing like that. I do believe the older designs were much lovelier to look, the current designs are just the same old portraits of old dead guys (and a few ladies), but nothing reflecting values.

<< <i>Would love to see a contest similar to what the French had in 1848 to determine our nations coinage. Could put it to a vote...
So, this must be the frenchlieutenant's woman ?

No, she had a wardrobe malfunction.

The Sac has an awesome design plus it has a few different reverses with awesome designs.
I do wish they would banish the presidents off the coinage.
...SLQ certainly a great design. too bad we can't bring back the sculptors of yore.
