HAS YOUR OPINION OF THE NEW "SHIELD" REVERSE FOR THE LINCOLN CENTS CHANGED?

I'm half-way thru a box of pennies, and I have to admit that I've come around to them.....

I was hesitant at first, as the drawings made the reverse look too "weak" for my liking. But once in hand and used in daily transactions (and viewed in roll-searching) over the last few years, I have to say that I now actually like the new reverse a lot better than the old Lincoln Memorial, and it brings back the feeling of coin designs/symbols of around Abe's time, like the 2-cent pieces.

Put me squarely in the new reverse's corner.....

Has anyone else's opinion changed over time?

I'm neutral on them. They are not terrible, but I think they are a step back, especially coming on the heels of all the varied reverses they used in 2009.

I don't know... personally, I thought the 2009 designs were very "thin" and "weak" & tried to put too much detail onto the coin. I kind of like the simplicity of the new one, and find it to be a very clean, uncluttered design.

I'll grant you it's better than the old Lincoln Memorial reverse. That one had gotten quite stale.

I would like it if not for the mix of a few different types of lettering (fonts) and the huge sets of designers' initials that distract.

An outstanding design given the limitations of composition and production.

That said, I'd rather not get any cents than get zinc cents. Keep them. They're literally trash to me, taking up mass and volume in my pockets like a gum wrapper.

I'd say the rolls I'm searching thru are about 95% brand-spanking-new 2012's, and they are SO shiny!! Look awesome! But then, mixed in with those are a few older ones, and they sure don't hold onto those initial good looks!!

If leaders would think, they wouldn't use zinc. They'd be struck in silver and worth a gallon of gas. Then we could have real money and products worth buying again, using the change we adopt with the common cent.

My opinion hasn't changed . . . I liked them from the beginning, and still do. Neat coins!

I'm fine with them. I like them better than most of the current modern coins for its simplicity.

Can't remember last time I saw one. The design neither thrills nor repulses me. A simple design such as a shield is appropriate for the cent, but the design isn't just simple, it's simplistic.

It's better than some designs, but the cent, along with the nickel, have been horribly outdated by inflation. Even if we did need them, the design is cartoonish, bearing no evidence of the hand of an artist.

I don't like the plating crap on any Lincolns but I do like the Shield Design.

Well said. I barely notice them and really try to avoid getting pennies in change at all cost. It is wasteful that we still make them and circulate them.

I've always loved the design. Looks similar to a colonial coin or civil war token.
