I just finihed selling an item on Ebay and I get this message:

Dear greattoning,

I'm Sorry my 1 year old was banging on the keyboard and bid for me. I'd love to own this coin there is just no way I can afford anything this high end. Can you please discount my bid and send a second chance offer to the next highest bidder. Thank You!

A good example of where if someone wins the bid and wants out, they should offer to pay the difference between what they would have paid had they won and what the coin brings on second chance or relisting. Sadly, you'll likely have no choice but to agree to not complete the transaction.

Been there. Cancel his bid and move on. Better than shipping and taking a return. Sucks.

Sure- no problem! Just PayPal me the difference between your kid's erroneous bid and one bid increment above the third place bidder (which is what the second place bidder would have paid if your kid hadn't bid for you) and we'll be good. Thanks!

I think that the guy is an insensitive parent. His kid obviously loved the coin, and now his dad is just being cheap. I'd guilt him by saying you're sure that his son will be really disappointed when he can't have what he bid on.image

my son did this to me about a month ago. six hundred and some odd dollars on a nascar toy car

worth about five bucks. That's what I get for leaving my account open unattended.

It sounds really weak to me----I don't believe it. It takes a mouse click and not a keyboard stroke----although, I never tried it with just my keyboard. He must have had all the info typed in and ready to go when the rogue one-year-old took over. image

Although most feel the excuse of a one year old
hitting the key board a lame excuse, rest assured
a 14 yr old was joking around while I was on my
lap top and in tHe bidding process hit some random
keys. Although he thought it was hilarious, I was
thankful that site asked for confirmation before a
bid could be executed. ( Unlike a Heritage Live Internet
Only Auction ; I have made erroneous bids on those ).

doesn,t the one year old work?tap into his funds or give him a preschool negativeimage

Did the 1-year-old bid just once or did he make repeat visits to your auction and repeat keyboard bangings? I wonder if your auction layour triggered a reaction in the child that caused him to flail his arms in such a way to result in a bid. Yeah, that's it. The more I think about it, this is clearly your fault; image

ive heard stories like that before. cancel the bid, email next bidder. move on ( i dont know about blocking bidder so that does not happen again either )

I believe it can happen. Before my son could talk he had purchased several pieces of music on iTunes with his mothers iPhone. Then there was that one time with the 911 operator who was not too happy, but that's another story. Kids can do amazing things when they don't know what they're doing...

Agreed. I am not surprised (unless this happened after much incremental bidding or many times to this person).
I had an issue some years back with my son when he was an infant and wanted attention...I was on my laptop and looking at ebay and he kept moving around and somehow the BIN for a coin I had clicked on to look at (not bid on) occurred and, in trying to cancel it before it getting confirmed, his flailing caused a movement of the cursor and a confirmation.

Now, the seller in question was a standup guy and also had a return policy.
I explained it to him and he did not make fun of me, just agreed to cancel it. I told him I wanted to reimburse him a little for his hassle of having to relist and everything, and he politely refused.
I sent him $10 w/ paypal anyway and told him to buy a cup of coffee anyway.

So, it isn't always "lame", though I would believe 99 out of 100 times, or more, it would be.
However, it does happen. Weird things really do happen out there.

That all said, as a seller on ebay these days, which would you prefer? Someone winning and asking to cancel immediately, for whatever reason, or trying to force a coin on someone who doesn't want it and WILL RETURN it (hopefully with no issues to go along with it)?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I've heard of people "accidentially bidding," but I didn't believe it when I heard the story either.

I believe he owes you the difference between his bid and what you sell it for.

Why? Like it or not, he at least acted as an inadvertant shill to screw the underbidder. I'd be thanking my lucky stars for that little tyke if I was the seller!

My tolerance for a guy trying to back out of a deal is directly proportional to the creativity of his excuse. This one was lame IMO.

Well I will say I was rather surprised to see my two year old grandson turn on and start playing his games loaded on his dads Ipad.image
