COUNTERFEIT 2011 ASE......thought I'd share..
Bought this little jewel off Ebay HERE.
The title said Silver Plated Copper Round but pic showed a 2011 ASE. So, what the heck, pulled the
trigger and this is what I got. Not marked copy/replica or anything else. Could fool a lot of folks that
aren't up on ASEs. It's MEDAL turn. I think the pics will speak for themselves. Real one is the 2004.
bob
It has a matte finish look to it.

Now for the specs:
Real one is 31.2 grams. FAKE is 32.2 grams (1 gram heavier)
Real one is 40.66 diameter and FAKE is 40.00 diameter (boy that's soo close)
Thickness is 2.99 mm and FAKE is 3.17 mm (slightly thicker)
I don't have a specific gravity set up so that is unknown at this point.
This is really not good for the hobby.

the 2011 pictured in the link is obviously not an authentic silver eagle
added: this is why i am so hard on facsimiles of USA coinage. in my opinion it is NOT an area we can afford to allow such lieniency. handbags, shoes yes, coinage not so much.
while the items aren't usually sold as authentic items, it is very easy for someone to do so, or think they've stumbled upon something worth more than they paid

At this rate there will be no hobby, no sellers, no buyers, no TPG's, no nothing.
EDIT: Every single day there are multiple new threads regarding fakes, frauds, thefts etc., and many say it's not a problem, it's been going on for decades.
ty for bringing this seller to my attention.
i recently brought my "sellers to watch list" to a new level of organization and am ready for many more unfortunately
.
in the shield might be a tad thin is all.
I bought it knowing it was a fake but was surprised that it did not have copy on it somewhere.
Reeding on the edge is finer and more numerous than the real one. I have not counted the reeds!

should not be legal to sell these, since the outside states 1 oz. silver but is only silver coated copper is VERY misleading.
tyvm for sharing AUandAG
.
I don't see why a seller would take the risk for a few $.

They are not just misleading, they are counterfeit. Not legal to sell them. Those crap gold plated "tribute proofs" on TV an in the newspapers are missing the denomination and the fineness. These contain both. Doesn't matter that the seller is saying they're plated. Now that you're done studying it, report it to eBay as a sale of a counterfeit and get your money back. We really should not be putting up with this crap.

I was expecting copy but now that it's not marked, he'll get a neg and Ebay will get a phone call. We'll let
them take the guy down.

Good. He's been selling these for a while. Plenty of others in his sale history that should also be brought to eBay's attention. In addition to counterfeiting, he's probably also committing some other fraud by selling bullion that is not what it's marked.

Reported as counterfeit and a replica in violation of ebay policy on copy coins based on picture and seller's description.

<< <i>at least the seller stated it was a plated copper round... >>
Doesn't matter. It is a counterfeit coin and it bears a false marking of bullion content. Reported.

+1
on the subject of counterfeits. i read an article about a factory i think in NJ that was producing counterfeit Heinz ketchup in the upside down plastic bottles and another story on counterfeit polo and lacoste clothing and what to look for in the styles, colors and other details in the products before purchasing. what a ride!
also do me a favor and think twice before purchasing knock-off products are they are extremely unsafe and usually fund things you wouldn't believe.
