Brief ANA Dallas Show Report

Made it to the show about an hour after it opened. The show itself was a little smaller than I expected, but nevertheless it wasn't overwhelmed with dealers
for as far as the eye could reasonably see! Bourse traffic was moderate, but not super busy. I ran into several forum members, but mostly those were the
dealers. This was also only the second coin show I've been to in about 1.5-2 years so it was a nice trip regardless of whether I picked anything up...which I did!

The goal of the show was to try to fill a hole or two in my Capped Bust Dime die marriage set. I needed 18 die marriages (out of 123) when I entered the show.
All but 2 of those 18 die marriages are considered fairly common (R1 to R4). The other two VERY RARE die marriages have a combined population of no more than
15 pieces known...and I knew one dealer who had a spectacular example of one, but it was well outside my price range. Nevertheless it was nice to look at image

Within 5 minutes of entering the show, and the first table I sat down at I found 2 Bust Dimes I needed for my die marriage set! I was shocked, and thought: 'this
could be a great show'! Nice, problem-free pieces which fit fairly nicely in my collection...so I was in a great mood from the start!

Then, about 15 minutes later I sat at another dealers table and found 3 more Bust Dimes - 1 being a die marriage I needed, another being a duplicate of a tougher,
R5 die marriage which I am always happy to acquire multiples of, and the 3rd was an 1803 Draped Bust Dime (not pictured) and a date I didn't have from that series.

Then I just cruised through the rest of the bourse. Saw some pretty nice coins along the way, but only a couple stuck out as pieces that I liked. After about 3 hours
into the show I found another dealer who had a VERY RARE Bust Dime die marriage in his case - labeled as such; 1821 JR-2 (R6). Upon first glance it looked like a nice,
problem-free VG coin, and so I asked to see it even though I already own 2 examples of this die marriage! After a couple minute inspection I asked how much he
wanted for it. He quoted me a price I absolutely could not refuse! After putting on my poker face for another minute and looking over the coin again I paid the dealer...
slight grin on my face image Shortly after I also ended up picking up a very nice 1820 Bust Quarter from this dealer as well.

I sent the 1821 Dime to PCGS for slabbing - it should grade VG-8 (Sorry, no pics right now). I had already anticipated sending another example of this die marriage to
PCGS for slabbing, but with this new, even more problem-free example I swapped specimens to better guarantee getting a physical grade.

Here's a pic of the 1820 Quarter:

All-in-all I had a fantastic time. Got to catch up with numis-friends and found some great coins.

Oh wait, I almost forgot one last NewP. About 30 minutes before the bourse closed (5:30), I bought one last Bust Dime for my set. I liked it, and I think you will too image

that is a spectacular day for someone with an already-advanced die marriage collection! I can't remember the last time I bought six coins at a single show. I do remember those days and they were great fun. Congratulations on a good time and some good purchases

In the last 2 weeks alone I have bought about 14 coins for my collection, whereas in the last 3-4 months maybe 2-3 coins total!

So yes, this was a great show for me. Left with 8 coins (6 are pictured), and submitted another 15 to PCGS (mostly Bust Dimes).

Glad that you're a happy camper. You bought more coins at that show than I've bought in the last five years.

Great report - and I'm glad you found some Dimes you needed for your set...
    I was looking to see if you cherry-picked another curly 2 - 1829 Dime... I don't
think poor ol' Dimeman's heart could've taken the stress if you had !!

Glad to hear you're back at Grad School - good luck with the Thesis.

A mutual friend mentioned he had lunch with you. Maybe you can join us
for a week in Colorado Springs this Summer.

Great newps! When it rains it pours, and that's a good thing sometimes. Very well matched pieces, and the 1823 is really nice. Are we guessing the grade on that one? XF45? Glad to see you're still picking up a bust quarter here and there ;-)

This coin should arrive in a week or so. I forgot to pick it
up from a dealer before I left. Therefore I do not have pics!
