I bought some other Large Cents as well, but I'll save them for later because it's getting a little late.

Okay, well...maybe another...

there is just something amazing to me about 165 year old copper coins with luster bands and a smooth chocolate brown hue

  • They are VERY nice. And wholesome, too. Nary a mark on the '47, and virtually nothing on the '98, either. image

Nice catch. I always thought that Draped Bust Liberty was a hot looking gal for being from the 1700's.

Do you think that '47 would make a 66 or 67?

Not enough luster from the pic.

Looks like a 4 at best from the pictures. The luster isn't strong enough/

I came by the '47 the hard way. I spent a good deal of time trying to decide between 3 other 1847s in the same case and didn't pay much attention to it because it was higher money. I was torn between a coin that had about 40% bold red and a different one that had needle sharp strike and less red, but both had a small ding or some minor little stuff. I was just about to give in to the bold red, and I picked up this one. No marks, even color, nice strike. I decided without much ado. It's a MS-63 with no detractions, netted as MS-63.

The 1798 was in an NGC holder, XF-45BN. I netted it out at VF-35+. When I cracked it out last night, I could see that the overall grade was as expected, so I decided to keep it instead of using it as trade-in for the "other" coin that I bought today.

Hey, thanks for your nice comments everyone.
