If you Fancy Early Copper, Here's one for You (1814 Cent)...see 21st post for slab grade

this is a new addition to my Classic Head Large Cent Set by Sheldon variety. There are 19 varieties in the set.
I already have a decent example for each of the 19 varieties, but I am trying to bring all of my set pieces up to the VFish grade level.
Just added this S-295, aka "Plain 4" 1814 cent to my collection.

It was entombed, so if you feel compelled, you can guess what grade opinion was on the label (I do save the labels, but discard the plastic for these coins)

I love the look of your new cent.
My favorite type within the series and your coin is near flawless for the grade.

Really really nice. I think the EACers might call this a vf-30 or 35, but the slabbers would be at least xf-40.

ok, ill go xf 40. is that a die crack on the obverse? ( rubbing eyes, im tired, it looks like a possible double profile as well )

In the holder - it should be an EF-40. The EAC grade would be VF-25 with notations about an old cleaning and skillful recoloring. I don't mean to be a jerk, but you don't get mint red inside the top of the wreath and the "E" in "ONE" on an old copper coin that has seen a few years worth of circulation. Heck, I've got a 1795 cent that really is Mint State, and all you get is a whisper of red in a couple of protected places.

I don't think those spots are "Mint Red"...... more like a tan spot or a gunk spots.

Her hair looks like it had some rub after the coin turned brown/retoned. I bet it slabbed with no problems.

The coin has great eye appeal. Congrats!

    Nice! I'd guess 35 but 40 wouldn't surprise me.

Congrats on completing the die marriage set, Barndog!

    I'd guess XF-40. That's a clean planchet for a very under-rated series. Nice pickup!

Very nice coin. I'd say EF-40

    here's the coin's former home:

BillJones, I think your assessment has a lot of merit to it.

    spooly, yours too.

Tdec, the reverse does not appear to have been wiped. In hand and with mega-sized images, I can see flow lines or are they die deterioration lines? Either way, no signs of wiping.

johnny redsox, yes, that is a die crack. I really like the look. No double profile though.

I still grade the coin as suitable for my VFish set image

    I thought 35.

A gorgeous coin! The flow lines looked like hairlines in the picture. Nice pickup!

This pic won't show much other than the really neat holder the set resides in. The coin board was courtesy of Dave Wnuck, now with HLRC
