New Collecting Strategy - PCGS CoinFacts Approval

ZoinsZoins Posts: 34,401 ✭✭✭✭✭
Recently there have been a number of great coins and medals posted with CoinFacts photos:

- Libertas Americana medal in silver by cardinal (image)
- Bechtler dollars by RYK (image 1, image 2)
- CAL quarter eagle by claychaser (image)

These are beautiful pieces that are recognized as important by PCGS.

Would it make sense for some to create a collecting strategy around pieces that PCGS recognizes enough to take CoinFacts photos for on their own prerogative (either before or after purchase)?

There may be a slight glitch with the strategy. The top Bechtler in my thread was a TrueView coin with the following url:

    http://images.pcgs.com/TrueView/26496498_800x600.jpg

I changed the "TrueView" to "CoinFacts" for a more uniform presentation AND to obscure the cert # such that one could not tell which was the "Bent" coin and which was the graded coin.

If you look in the CoinFacts page, the coin is not among those with photos.

You appear to be right if all TrueViewed coins automatically appear to have CoinFacts photos even if they aren't listed in CoinFacts.

Perhaps the strategy should be adjusted to say coins that are worthy of inclusion in CoinFacts, regardless of whether it has a CF photo or not.

Not to me. That seems like more of a financially motivated strategy than one driven by purely collector interests.
When I buy a coin for a reason that partly involves something other than the coin itself, it is because of the pedigree.

I wouldn't necessarily say the strategy is financially motivated. After all, it's easy to get buried in well-regarded pieces.

It's more about building a collection that is more universally recognized as 'nice' regardless of your financial return.
