Found in the register, fake or artificially worn? - Very Old Thread -

I saw this while counting up yesterday, it really stood out. I dropped it on the counter and it has a similar ring to a normal quarter, but it has that counterfeit look to it. Hard to imagine that someone would bother to counterfeit a modern quarter. What do you think?

    Pretty cool! I for one would say,not counterfeit but odd.probably just a worn die,pretty common,except the reeds missing?image

    I would say tumbled.

    Counterfeiting copper nickel clad coins can get very expensive since the technique used to create the clad strip is proprietary and expensive.

    But thats just my opinion.
    I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    This is just an unusual form of wear.

    There are probably thousands of things that can cause it but essentially it's the result of
    countless thousands of small impacts that cause the metal to deform rather than to abraid
    or slough off. It's like being beaten by many tiny hammers.

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
