What would you do?

If you had the opportunity to "go back in time" and collect one series, what would it be? Personally, I'd scrap my Registry Set of Washingtons (currently 11th finest), my many completed volumes of Danscos, a few other odds and ends of numismatics, and focus exclusively on Walkers!


Just to clarify I mean if you could start your collection over...... not necessarily go back to the 1800's and cherrypick based on your knowledge today.

What would you do???

    Walkers are beautiful , I would focus on all of the Morgans! Esp. the C.C.s Imagine,a 70 in the Morgans.image

    I would buy pre-1930 key and semi-key dates in better grades that just tip the price scale of the breakout prices.
    I would buy VF and XF Bust and Seated coins.
    I would also buy about 1% of the US Mint products that I bought when I started instead of the thousands of dollars of about worthless proof and mint sets that crowd my closets.

    Oh! I would not start collecting my Silver Eagles.They make you get sucked in on buying whatever " Eagle " comes out. The mint's got carried away with different coins in the series now. You wish you didn't even get started. Oh,well.My 2 cents.

    Double eagles. A lot of rare dates in both the Liberty and Saint Gaudens as a result of melting, especially in the later years of the Saints.

    See my post above yours. Buying double eagles at time of issue for face value is buying bullion that has a good chance of developing huge numismatic premiums.

    Knowing what I know today, If I could go back in time to collect a specific series............



    I'd sink every dollar I had into a series of Microsoft Stock buys and worry about the coins later.
    I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    There are individual coins that I have bought for my collection that I now regret, but I can't say that there is one series that I would prefer to own over what I now have. I found collecting half cents by die variety interesting at one point, but then I hit the wall and could not continue the collection because the coins I needed were either never available or cost too much money in unattractive condition. Ditto for early large cent collecting. I just don't have the patience or flexibility with respect to the state of preservation to pursue it.

    So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm really happy with my collection and don't see a need to wish for something else.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
