Awful Story- Ruse of showing coins to collector used to rob and murder him- suspects caught

WinLoseWinWinLoseWin Posts: 1,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

Below is a link to printed story and video report.

Not sure if he already knew and trusted them or if they were strangers referred to him or what. At least the suspects are off the street

He had guns so he must have thought there was a reason to trust them.

i've been telling people over the past year or so that my business is very dangerous. an odd amount of murders take place in conjunction with the amount of armed/violent robberies

half the time i feel paranoid about counterfeits and robberies and just when i relax, another story like this comes along and not too far from me ><

Absolutely disgusting. I wonder if all parties involved feel it was worth it? Taking a man's life for $100,000. It makes me fear for myself and my loved ones.

The way that Lacy is talking laying everything on the guy it makes me think she'll get off easy. The driver will claim ignorance and get a slap on the wrist. Just wait and see.

Does Indiana have the death penalty? These 2 sound like perfect justification for having it.......an 81 year old man, 81, begging for his life, 'take it all, just let me live'.....and the scum still slit his throat, AFTER they stabbed him and used brass knuckles on him (brass knuckles on an 81 y.o. man....). Even if they do have the death penalty, it could never be 'eye for an eye'...too many 'painless' death penalties are carried out now.....injections, no pain, gas, no pain.....bring back Ol' Sparky...make 'em walk 'The Green Mile'.
    I'll come up with something.

This story is a good example of why you never, ever invite people you do not know well to your home or a secluded area to conduct business.

I'll go one further than that. When I travel, I never go anywhere with a stranger. This scam has been around forever.

That is also absolutely true. When some random person randomly chats you up and tries to befriend you or when some hot woman invites you to a place of her choice it's best to turn around and walk away fast. The hot woman scam has been around forever and every year countless men are victimized.

It really is a shame too because I've met and made friends with so many people in the numismatic community. Things like this happen and suddenly we're suspicious of one another. There's nothing like meeting another person with a passion for coins and just sitting down and talking about it and sharing the experience of your collection. Now you have to be worried about being knifed/shot over it.

I absolutely love my coins and like to show them to others but if the wrong person sees it...

I also hate keeping them locked up in a safe. I'd much rather have a nice glass case to display them in my office at home or living room area. I don't feel like I can do that sadly...

    Sickening.

And also a reason why I never meet people at my home, and only rarely in theirs, for any of my vest pocket coin dealing activities.

GOOD! If there IS justice, that means there should be at least one more person taking up residence on death row and walking 'the green mile' (which SHOULD be done quickly, but these guys sit on death row for quite sometime), as they'll probably toss the woman in for life w/o parole after she turns state's witness.

It IS sickening, as when reading the story, it gives you a REAL visual (unfortunately), which you don't get with most 'regular' news stories. I'm stunned every time I read it, just like I'm reading it for the first time.

Beating an 81 y.o. man with brass knuckles, robbing him (and I'd have to imagine, when he begged them, it was a 'just take it all, please, just don't kill me'...as the article said, he was begging for his life).... then the scum just slits his throat, after getting what they wanted, when they could have simply fled......really sickening and sad, really....81 with apparently more time to go on living his life, something all of us hope for, I'm sure....what a sin. The sad thing is, the day before this grisly incident, there were 2 scumbags working on how to get money (probably to support their habits), and an 81 year old man enjoying life. Most of us don't make it to 81 to begin with. They murdered someone who had the good fortune to live a longer than average life (the avg lifespan for white males is 75.3 years, according to a report to Congress in 2003, caucasian females is 80.5 years....he had surpassed that age and seemed to be going along just fine, seemingly with more time to go). The scumbags who did this, well, HOPEFULLY they get what they deserve, no deals, nothing.
    I'll come up with something.

Shame we live in such an evil material society these days. I think even Bonnie and Clyde would have thought that crime despicable.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'll bet that they don't even get life w/o parole. They are poster cases for execution. Beyond scum.
