Spend My Money for Me, Or Save My Money - Should I ANA or Not?

The house won't be sold for a while now, but we have a contract on it with no other sales contingency.
Would it be premature of me to go to Philly ANA and drop some big bucks or should I wait until the money is in the bank?

<< <i>Going to shows isn't always about spending big money. >>
<< <i>Depends on the rarity of the coins that you're considering. If not a one of a kind type of coin, you can probably wait for it to come along again after you close on your home. What types or series of coins do you favor? >>
the modern crap I've been missing out on not ordering from the mint for the past ~3 months.
I can wait, but if I go to Philly, I can inspect what I buy beforehand. Returns to the Mint are costly.
Oh, and there are a couple of Stacks lots I'd like to try for. Thats a few grand each right there.

I was actually wanting to hear : no, you are a fool. I was happy with the first reply.
now you guys have me thinking.
It would give the kid and I some quality time.
Though we have been on cash conservation mode since the job loss, the job hunt, the new job, and pending house sale.
I'd likely drop just $500 just visiting. hmmmm.....

Please PM me when you have time. I'd like to help if I can. Your PM is turned off now.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Finally seeing this set in hand is a once in lifetime opportunity.
and goes through rather then falling through
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
Alternate plan - go to the ANA and *sell* enough coins to pay for the trip.

and the roof is old (17 years) and needs to be replaced.
They want a whole new roof or the deal is off. Repair (ha.) won't do. Interestingly, we are unable to see the home inspection report. It's "Deal or no deal."
I think I'm getting squeezed.
I don't think I can go.

Sounds to me like you've got a buyer who thinks (knows?) you're desperate to sell and is sticking you with some unreasonable demands. Any chance you can tell him to go fly a kite?
either way, we'll have to hire someone to go in and check to see if there are leaks, but I can't imagine there are any.
Now, that I think about it.... I might just go down there tomorrow and look for myself.
<< <i>I'm primarily going for the lot viewing of Justhavingfun's SLQ's in the S/B auction...

This is the only reason I am going - I have waited for years to take a glimpse of this collection -
either on line or in person. Its like a dream come true.

Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
New Barber Purchases
My neighbor, a doctor, had a $500,000+ house and put a $8,000-$12,000 roof on it when he got it ready to sell. That way, he could say "it's a new roof". It won't last 10 years without repairs/work, imho, and was beginning to show just a couple of years into it. He had roofers come in from 2 hours away for that rate....most of the local ones would charge ~$18,000-$20,000+
Friend of mine, different part of the state where the average income is much less, and cost of living is WAY less, got by with a smaller roof and it only cost ~$5,000-$6,000.
So, one of the things I would do, and you may already, is to put a value on the replacement and if you can specify who is doing it and with what material. They want to screw you over, you can go cheap.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
