I used to collect them when I was a kid. I think they were issued (or re-issued) in 1976 to commemorate the country's bicentenial.

But I don't have any now.

Let's see, library card, GHIN golf handicap card, ATM card long since expired and for a bank I no longer use, couple of blank checks, a $5, two $10's and a gum wrapper on which is written a faded phone number that must have been important. No $2's though.

    No, none present, none wanted.

I do however want a $500 bill in there. One day I swear I'm gonna pull the trigger on eBay. A nice one, prefolded , might not hurt too bad. Think I can find a graded authenticated one with fold lines?

I'd have to cut it out to carry in the wallet, of course.

When I worked at Terrible Instruments I used to cash my check and get several hundred dollars in $2 bills to spend throughout Houston. People remembered me because I did it for a few years - I'm guessing their remembrances were not fond ones.

    From a paper money guy:

I have a $1 silver certificate, a 1976 $2, a 1963 $5 United States Note (red seal) and several star notes. Great show and tell items.

I actually had a few in there a week or two ago, but they got spent. Most of the contents of my wallet is receipts, credit cards, ID cards, membership cards, and assorted frequent eater cards (Jimmy John's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Which Wich). I don't quite have the Costanza wallet going, as I purge it before it gets that bad.

I do. It's supposed to be a conversation starter, but it's been in there for a few years and has started 0 conversations. Eventually, I will probably want something badly and not have anything else to buy it with and spend it.

I also have an Ike dollar in my pocket at all time, but I'm hoping the other change will clean the scuzz off it that got on it during a basement flood. No change yet, went in in 2009 or so.

Always ask for them at the bank and usually get a few.

Few months ago I received 6 dated 1928.

They had creases and were worn, but I was thrilled and kept them.

The newer ones I spend at fund raisers at school and the kids get a kick out of them.

I also use them as tips.

You'd be surprised at how many people thank me.

I gave my mailman 5 of them for a Christmas tip last year and he still talks about it.

My Dad explained it to me that it was your money of last resort. Back in his day, no ATMs, no cell phones, no charge cards..... If you wuz broke you wuz broke. In such case, again, going back a half century...2 bucks could do a lot for you

No, but I do have a holed 3 cent silver.
  • Not in my wallet, but I do have a couple. Don't ask me why, they will never be worth anything. My grandpa use to give them to us for Christmas every year. I think he thought they would be valuable some day.

I hate thick wallets. I have some $2 bills for fun. But my wallet only holds my driver's license, a couple of credit cards, and my concealed weapons permit.

Yup, in my wallet. Got it from the bank. Been many years since I got one in change.
  • Yes, I have several. Each time I go to the bank, I ask for a few. The reaction when I spend them is sometimes priceless.

I've mentioned it before, but we have an older lady who makes homemade breakfast tacos ( if you've never had hand made tortillas andtomatillo/serrano salsa you are missing out) and brings them to our office on Mondays and Thursdays. They cost $2 a piece and rather then missing out on a taco day, I keep $2's at work in what I call my taco box. It started out just for me but has since evolved into a office taco box where if you need taco money you can borrow from the box. I don't keep track of it and it always gets repaid. It also has about $20 in half dollars, and has had dollar prezies when I was able to get them at face, shipped from the mint. It's an exercise in A.) goodwill, B.) office camaraderie and C.) self policing. image

  • Yes, I usually try to get a few each time I go to the bank. I've also noticed that a few vending machines now take them.

I spent a couple at Coachella a few years back and the guy thanked me and said they were lucky.

I didn't tell him how to get very lucky very fast.
