This has an ANACS photo cert. and would be a slight upgrade to my current piece. What are your thoughts?

Doesn't do much for me. Too many spots. Bad color on the obverse (which I admit may be the picture, my monitor, or my eyesight).

Can't really make a recommendation what you should do without seeing your current coin, but I wouldn't buy this one.

I would also pass on this coin given the spots and colors.

    Be patient.

Nice examples of common-date half cents like 1828 are easy to locate. The corrosion spot near star 3 would put me off. I also think you should wait for a better one. AU55 details here by PCGS standards, I would guess.

As someone with a half-cent collection, all AU and below, I have to agree with all the above.
The caveat is that you are collecting by the holders.....so, while we are all looking at the coin, I guess it would depend on what the one you currently have looks like and if that would really be an upgrade for you.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

AU sharpness, but the spots lower net grade to EF. The 1828 is one of the most common dates so you can do better.

Thanks for the replies. My current piece is graded EF40/40 and has a pinhead sized corrosion spot on it. This piece is graded AU50/55 but the eye appeal is less than my current piece. Yes, this is a common date, but finding half cents with ANACS photo certs is not easy. This is only the second piece I have come across.

I understand your liking this as I too like the old photo-certs, but unless you can get this at a significant discount I'd stay away due to the active gunk on the coin.

The obverse color just doesn't look right at all, and that gunk is no bueno either image

It sounds like you have an okay coin in the half cent slot already. I would now wait for one that is excellent as an upgrade. The coin in the OP ain't excellent.

Nice coin for what it is...laying aside the corrosion I like it as AU, but not choice imo. AU 50 dets, corroded.
