I saw the topic about Coin Talk, wondered how many people from here also post there? I post there off and on, along with Coin Talk and ATS.

Wasnt there a big to do with one of the mods there being a bit out of order ? I seem to remember a lot of the old school left there and some opened their own forums , it's possible that's how coin talk was born but i can't swear to it.I know other forums were begun due to that reason. It went downhill rapid after that.

I used to post on CoinTalk, but my computer decided to not let me log in anymore. Every time I tried, I would get error messages. Eventually gave up.

I lurk there from time to time also ATS but those forums seem to be a bit sleepy if you ask me.
  • That is the main forum I post at. I have lurked here for years but most of my activity is there. I enjoy it over there but it seems like a completely different atmosphere than here. They try and keep it "family friendly", spirited disagreements are tolerated but a lot of things that fly here, wouldn't there.

They do seem to be a pretty nice group, though when I asked which other coin forums folks belonged to on the CCF boards, the post was removed. Guess they viewed that as a plug for the competition, when in reality is was just an innocent question. That being said, I'm posting in the ongoing large cent thread there, it's fun seeing what other folks have.

I lurk on the CCF, mostly the ancient section. Its much more active then here or cointalk & I have debated on joining it. But damn..I have I belong to so many coin forums already, lol.

I tried CCF and CoinTalk, but find this one to have the most volume, expertise and best humor image
  • I belong over there (ceylon62) and am active on the currency side and do agree
with most of what’s been posted here as some of my links have been removed as well etc…

IMO, there are a lot of folks with knowledge who have large collections (coins and currency).
They KEEP quiet a lot of times as you are dealing with a lot of folks who are jealous of others collections / want to buy stuff cheaply from you etc…
It’s rather childish and immature…. and the jealousy thing is a lot more rampant than folks realize.

Morgan VAM section is good as there are quite a few VAM enthusiasts WHO know their stuff inside out.
Lot of folks stopped posting in that sub forum after a particular member was banned
for voicing their opinion / questioning things etc…and this person has in depth knowledge of classic coins and currency. .

FWIW, over the last 2 years I have met folks through coin community and
we conduct business and chat about coins and currency offline.

    I am not knocking it…
but YOU have to know who you are dealing with…so to say

The Coin Community Forums are really pretty good and there are lots of interesting posts
and threads. It tends to be less formal than other forums but it's more polite. There are
numerous knowledgeable posters but there are more beginners there proportionately than
most other forums. They've been around quite a few years and are pretty well moderated.
It's not the place for most collectors but I don't follow the classic coin forum very closely and
it might be better suited to the average collector than the modern coin forums. The place
got a huge boost when the old Coin World Forum shut down and has been steadily and very
slowly growing ever since. In those days this forum was like the wild west so the few who
didn't go to Coin Community went to Coin Talk. The old ICG boards didn't have much effect
when it closed shop but some of them went to Coin People.

I belong, but haven't posted much over the last year and a half, and only VERY rarely wander over there anymore. I was very regular when I started collecting and was actively searching nickel boxes. After I completed my Jefferson set, I started spending more time over here, and now only rarely venture over there and ATS.

    BTW, I'm DylansDad over there.

I haven't experienced this in all the years I've been a member there. For the most part it is a very good forum. I've watched it grow over the years, not just in members, but improvements to the site as well. I can say for certain that anyone who decides to join will receive a warm welcome.
