A pretty nice CBH

lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,895 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sheridan always has some surprises. I got this one today for imaging, part of his Aug auction.

An NGC no-line fattie, CAC, with the most pristine slab I've ever encountered. The photos don't do it justice.
Lance.

    Nice looking coin.

Now that would be a great candidate for guess the grade. The guesses would be all over the map.

My guess would be in the $27k neighborhood.

A super variety and really eye appealing.

My estimate is somewhat higher than indicated, as this coin sold for over 40K 2 years ago( I think). It is not the Kaufman/Joe Thomas example from April 2009, as that coin is now in a newer NGC slab.

Grade? NGC 66, or PCGS 65+

edit: my bad. I now remember this coin from the Goldberg sale listed below, and the mid-20,000 range is a better estimate. Another NGC coin, graded 66( and not the Kaufman coin,) brought over 40,000 in 2010.

NGC 65. I couldn't find a prior HA auction. Haven't checked other auction houses. If anyone spots it I'd like the link.

    Beautiful piece.

    It is an O-101a, R-2.

If it grades above 62 it made the condition census.

I had the opportunity to visit Goldgerg's and view this coin in hand prior to it's auction in June.

The coin is quite spectacular, more pronounced toning in person, and really lovely lustre. However, I suspsect it will only 64/64+ on crossover, and as such, I believe that the sale price was extraordinarilly high. It's also somehat curious that someone would pay such a high price, and then almost immediately try to flip it.

This situation has the feel of a coin that did not cross at grade.
