Picked up a 1964 OGP proof set today containing 5 cameos and..........

............... the half dollar is an accented hair variety.

This is a first for me. All 5 coins have two sided frost on the devices and mirrored fields. The only negative is that the half has a few small milk spots under the T in Liberty and has a few small dark spots at about 9:00 on the obverse near the rim since a pinhole sized hole is in the cello.

My wife and I are in Monterey for the weekend and I stopped by the coin shop in Carmel to snoop. Snagged this set four 27 dollars.

My previous best was a 1962 set in OGP with 4 cameos.

Fun day for me.

I don't believe I've ever broken two in a single set...maybe made 3...all 5 is a true rarity! Nice work.

I don't have any problem with taking some time for coins when on a weekend get away with the wife. If you are enjoying one another's company, you can each take some time to do what the other enjoys and still make it a great weekend.

Fabulous. I love it when that happens.

My wife had an appointment and told me to disappear for two hours, so I went to the shop.

The cello can hide or distort things, so I do not know the quality of the frost. It may be that some or all of the coins in the set would not receive a Cameo designation if graded. However there is no doubt that all 5 coins have two sided frost and a cameo look. Too bad they are not all DCAM.

Kevin, how does this affect the math in my Proof Set thread for how many sets are required for the 1960's cam/dcam's??

i do notice lack of milk spot reference...one of the first things i dread...can't wait for the update with pictures of "post cellophane"

WoW! Do you realize what you have in your midst? If all are cameo like you say, also, the Accented Hair! You have a one of a kind. I've never heard of anything close. You might as well check for the" pointed dime" also. The 9 in the date has a point in the middle of the digit. Congrats!!! I would place the whole set in some sort of frame. Very, very imageimage

This set will remain intact. The value is in the set in OGP.

Back home from my trip and I am studying the proof set under good lighting. I am comparing the set with a 1964 CAM/DCAM set I put together in a Capitol holder.

The five coins in the OGP set clearly have two sided frost on the devices. The reverse frost on the nickel is DCAM. When rotating/tilting the flat pack cello envelope the fields of the coins flash their mirrors as well as their frosted devices. However the cello (which if you look at it closely you will see it is striated) obscures the quality of the fields and the devices.

In short one must look closely at all five coins to truly appreciate that all five coins have a Cameo look and the resulting uniqueness of the OGP set. The clear plastic of a Capital holder shows a cameo much better.

Keets, to answer your question about your prior thread on 1960's proofs, this set has no effect since your thread talked about DCAM coins. However if it talked of CAM coins I would revise my guess of 44 sets down to 41 or 40 (and lower if another early 60's OGP set with 5 cameos showed up).

Interesting that in your thread Segoja states that he bought an OGP 1964 proof set with 5 CAM or DCAM coins in it. Wonder if his was created at the same time mine was.

The more I look at my new set the more I like it.

P.S. The dime does have a pointed 9.

Pretty awesome, think of it. You have all in one, a very famous proof set year, The "accented Hair", " pointed 9", all coins in a " Cameo" ( if their all truly Cameo ), unopened , sealed from the mint, WOW! If only PCGS would grade all the coins in the cello. Now that would be the ultimate! Good Luck, whatever you decide on doing. Very unique! Thanks for sharing. - joey
