Are coin shops under attack in your area?

Here in the Detroit area, just in the past few months:
One coin shop was broken into three times. A local paper reported that $39,000 worth of merchandise was stolen in the first break-in. I don't know about the second or third break-ins. The dealer hasn't said much to the press.
A second coin shop was hit by daylight robbers a few months back. The dealer got his gun and shot at one of them (missing.) Now a local paper reports that the same coin shop had gasoline poured on its roof and was set on fire. Because the roof was wet the fire went out before much damage took place.
A third coin shop was broken into three times back in the first months of the year. On the third break-in, the shop was set on fire. The TV news footage showed the interior of the shop sustained considerable damage. (I don't know if the shop ever reopened.)
Can you imagine what this is doing to coin shop insurance rates?

All glory is fleeting.

People ask me a lot of questions.
I prefer metal roofing to this.

<< <i>theres a big push with people selling counterfits in this area. some guy just got busted with trying to sell $13,900 worth of worthless morgans >>
Now you're scaring me! Have to check all my Morgans now! How do you tell a fake PCGS holder again?
And the "glass half full" guys are in places like California, Hawaii.
Coincidence?

It's the "when things are bad they will only get worse" mentality. You see this mentality in other areas including political beliefs and future outlook. Can't speak for other states but in California it depend on where in the state you live. Live on the coast where housing prices have held up better and some businesses are chugging along your outlook is a lot sunnier. Live in the interior where no economic recovery is in sight and unemployment can be as high as 25% you feel very down and out.

I'm amazed at the amount of green parkland (actually vacant lots that have 'greened' over) in the downtown area.
It truly looks like a ghost town.

July 2008 Detroit unemployment was 17.5%, July 2012 is 17.7% despite Gov't stimulus of
several Billion Dollars. Graft in Gov't or lack of any accounting (moral accounting) is also
rampant.
"A chunk of an $11 million stimulus grant meant to provide low-income Detroit residents
with clothing for job interviews reportedly aided just two people -- far short of the 400
job-seekers the money was meant to help." The money was funneled to a contractor with
no accounting of any sorts. He opened a boutique to provide the clothing then neglected
to do just that.
We can say the same here in Las Vegas regarding unemployment but not regarding the crime.
What makes the difference? Graft in Gov't is not prevalent here. Stimulus funds were much,
much less although we did get some money and that money went where it was intended to go.
Hopefully the country will start adding jobs, which is the solution. If people are working they
are happier, healthier and less apt to commit a crime.
My rant is over and so probably is Detroit.

2) people who do care about coins but are better educated, knowledgeable, and have the Internet at their fingertips
