    Either the lighting gives a false impression of the surfaces or the coin was dipped many yeays ago and spent several years in an album

    I see the second as more likely so my grade is AU50 tops and 45 would not surprise me

    still - a decent coin as the majority of these have similar issues

    OK, time for the unveiling! Let me say I was a bit disappointed with the ruling for this coin. I've seen far worse examples in no problem graded holders. I think it has been dipped in the past, maybe even a light cleaning, but there doesn't appear to be anything too abrasive. The toning looks like album storage too, so I guess no dings for that. I still like the coin, it is very attractive in hand.

    The grade assigned to it was: AU Details, 92 Cleaned.

    Oh well...

    Thanks for the positive input; feel free to chime in on the assigned grade if you want.

    Based on the grade, it seems that the lighting in the image was not an issue and it is the surfaces of the coin. What likely tipped the scale is the look of the surfaces which are not natural for the state of preservation for this coin. For me, this is difficult write in a short space- look at the fields and the high points that exhibit wear and those areas seem unnatural and the result of something more than a casual dip 30 years ago-

    NewParadigm - true cleaned is not a grade, but it did get AU details. image I guess I could have made that a choice, but then it would take away from the grade for fun part. Out of the handful of 'gennies' that I have, I think I like this one the most.
