POLL: Total amount you've paid for your current collection

MidLifeCrisisMidLifeCrisis Posts: 10,550 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm not asking about the value...I'm asking how much you are into the collection for.

The amount adds up and can quickly surprise you.

Good thing currency isn't included, that would put me in a different bracket.

    That's why it's a poll.

Do you ever post pictures of expensive coins on here?

Do you own a published registry set?

    Be cautious, not paranoid.

What if you're playing with the house's money?

    Good for you.

But it still may be a significant amount...and still may be a lot more than you realize before thinking about it.

If I have a good night at the blackjack table, I soon start playing with the house's money. But if I come back the next night and lose a big chunk of it, I still get irritated even though I didn't "lose" anything.

The main point of this poll is awareness. Realize how much money you've put into your collection.

Frankly, I'm surprised at the results so far - approximately 74% of respondents have paid $25K or more for the coins in their current collection, with more than half of those in the $100K+ range.

I don't care who you are, that's a lot of money.

I sold quite a bit in January and only put some of it back in the collection, middle five figures I would guesstimate.

I am surprised that so many of the respondents are into their collection for $100,000 or more.

    I don't know if that's good or bad...but it's a lot of money.

$100k or more (just a little), but a LOT of that has been with the House's money. It's hard to estimate how much "new" money has been "invested" over the years, because my usual modus operandi is to upgrade, then sell the replaced coin (more often than not at a profit)... Or sell some bullion to obtain something numismatic... So, the bottom line is not hard and fast, and I would be willing to wager it's the same for many here...
