There is always the possibility that the seller didn't want to spend the extra .15 for another picture, and didn't know how to link a picture into his description. That being said, I would expect the reverse isn't as nice as the obverse. Guess we'll wait and see.

Seller sells a lot of aprons too! And a few coins.

    sellers completed listings

LVT - for $30 delivered, I'd go for it too, in the "Why not, see what happens" line of thinking. If the reverse is no good what are you out, like 8 bucks over melt?

As long as s/he has a return policy what's the real risk? Good Luck and be sure to share the results when it arrives.

I too feel the seller didn't what to spend the extra 15c for a second image as the first is free.

Prior to shipment you could ask if it's possible to have a reverse image emailed to you... Right image

i'm not huge on ..."self justification" as it over-rated
sellers on ebay can be a strange lot to begin with
we over here are very advanced compared to the general public in numismatics...we're on a top tpg site okay
some don't even know coins have mintmarks nor less even care...like posting images...to some there's no need just a simple description is just...as they just aren't into our lil hobby like us...or even care about values or worths
so on ebay true deals can be had...who here hasn't marveled in those lil or big scores (our studies are truly worth like any career or profession)

    this particular seller
low feedback number but 100% over 100 here in the us
mostly a crafts seller with only crafts for sale...only had this coin for sale till i pounced

$30 delivered...i've lost more in keno machines on goodnights okay...price of silver what it is...loss is at a low to begin with...the addictive nature of coin collecting is better used in coins...i call it coin therapy...works for me

here and members here...if ya only knew...i wish n hope we all score those diamonds in the rough and fill that you suck club like the likes of sumorada and madmarty...etc
some here...like myself...aren't fat in life
a proper you suck can change my life's situation so it's that hope that brightens my each and every morning

life rewards the bold and open minded...always has and will
close your mind and close your opportunities i say

    enough said
maybe others will...post those one sided purchases that turned out to be their own personal "you suck"...maybe even if only to inspire those here a lil low on one of life's key in
    hopes n dreams

For this amount it might not be worth returning the coin, even if it is unsatisfactory. If it is unsatisfactory, it still is worth appx. $24, and if it costs $6 to send it back, it's breakeven between sending it back and keeping it.

Exactly. In reality, the reverse could be a real dog and the seller knows that you won't return it because it won't be worth the time, effort, and money. I agree with Broadstruck that you should ask for pictures of the reverse before he ships. Regardless, at $30, there is not a lot of downside.
  • Also, I'm seeing some chatter in the fields.

My guess: Lock 64, shot 65

hey Ted, i for one hope you get what you expect and i don't see why you won't. after all, the good guys deserve to score every once and awhile!!image

heck, even if it grades MS63 you are a winner.
  • If the reverse is in fact as good I think you did fantastic for 30$...But I dont think theres a such thing as an easy 66, except maybe at segs. I think the obverse is a lock 64 and a + at that. Maybe a 65, and you hit the either of those levels then you did awesome. But I also think the photo technique used is on that hides a lot in the fields. See how the top part is made to look somewhat refelctive? That technique is common by many sellers that try to make coins look better than they are. I can PM you an example of a dealer that does this to all of his coins.

Seller is lucky the auction went the distance. It is an ebay listing violation to only show one side of the coin.

$30 sounds like a good gamble to me. I hope you win!

LVT, I think your on the right path. This coin has a good looking obverse I won't try to grade cause peace dollars I always get wrong. You hit the nail on the head with the whole ebay sellers being unique in a sense, sometimes they just got something to sell. As far as the pictures goes maybe the like taking photos and thats there hobby, hence the good coin photo. You know how it is, got to roll the dice every once in awhile. Good luck as always!

There's no way you'll lose on that one.

And, if you've been living right lately, there's a shot you'll see a little "S" on the reverse once you get it.

I like the coin and wouldn't think twice of buying it for $30 based on the photo. For $6 over the silver value I would say good purchase and well worth the gamble.

I can see absolutely no down side, lvt. Good job. So what if the reverse is carved up, you scrap it for silver and
perhaps in a week or so break even, and if not you lose a few dollars. But if the seller has said to you that the reverse
is similar or alike to the obverse, I feel you will have a nice MS65 coin. Every one on ebay isn't a thief just as everyone
on this board aren't nice guys/gals. When the loss is so minor I would go for it most times out of ten.
Good luck, I can't wait to see the pics.

I,m guessing 63-64 range. Pics a bit out of focus?

For $30 what is there to lose. I'd max it at 64 but I'm conservative.

I have to chime in on this as recently I have had to beg some DEALERS into providing a reverse picture, the last one asked me if there was anything I was looking for, Now why would I tell a dealer The reason I need a reverse picture is I am looking for a Variety? I recently received my First YOU SUCK award for picking off a coin on ebay for 28 bucks and it sold on teletrade for 3100. I know exactly where your coming from LVT its so much fun to search and in hopes of that one time it works out means more to us than the 10 or 20 bucks were out if wrong. There are MANY picks to be had on ebay if one takes the time and searches and the rewards can be wonderful, also the you suck award means more to me about finally learning enough about a series to take a chance every once in awhile getting lucky.I only had about 10 replys to my great news and it used to be everyone would come by and give you a congrats or a you suck, times are a changin and now it seems like a thread about nothing gets more replys than a thread about a score. Enjoy your collecting and good luck with this one..................tom image

<< <i>I predict that the reverse will be...................................................................
And at $30 how can anyone be hurt.
The only issue I can see if the rev is worse or flawed, then if it was photographed this buyer would have been able to see it and pass and the ebayseller would be selling it for melt. Why do I say this, because an incredible flawless photo was taken of the obv, the time it would take to do that of the rev is minimal unless the ebayseller who is also breaking ebay rules of not having a photo of the rev knows he would be shooting himself in the foot if he showed it. The ebayseller knowns what he is doing , he knows to present the best side forward and that is exactly what he is doing.[/q

Who cares? I mean what you gonna say when it shows up just a nice on the reverse as the obverse. I see none coin sellers list stuff with out even taking good pics or much of anything, Ebay selling is not the same for everybody. Some people just sell stuff.

You got a bargain.image judging from the sellers other completed coin auctions. If a seller is too ignorant to post the reverse pictures then they deserve what they get. This seller did not seem to think that it was worth the effort. I think you will be pleasantly surprised, but not unexpectedly. Let us know the result.

I purchased a 1874 Trade dollar like this years ago. I asked for a reverse photo but the guy said that the coin was in the vault over the weekend-I wanted to make sure is was a Philadelphia coin. It was. The guy's description was right on. It now resides in my collection-sorry no photos-It is in the safe deposit box. I also cherried an XF 1875-s twenty cent piece listed as a quarter with only an obverse photo--On this one- the seller sent me a reverse photo when I asked and fortunately for me did not put the reverse photo in the auction listing.

    Sometimes you get lucky..
