GTG - Newp - Chocolatey Dollar - REVEALED

Surprisingly tough to get the lighting right. The different darks and the luster crave different light angles.

VF35.
I find it tough to get the lighting right also - "overexposure...underexposure"- So I've been told..
Nice coin!
XF40 and an awesome overall look imo.

Great look IMO and I'll wager 35
While I do not know much about coin photography technique, I will say, that is a great picture. A dark coin with shaded gray features as well.... Very nice. Cheers, RickO
Nice original look, but tough coin to grade, for me at least.
My initial thought was VF20, but there are areas that have far sharper detail, so an
overall grade of VF35 wouldn't surprise me.
Nice looking coin.Not enough meat for a 45......so I say 40.
Looks XF40 to me.
40
40 would be my pick

Wow! 1801 - 217 years old!! Seems like grades should take into account age too, the older a coin, the less critical it should be judged. Perhaps not....just an idea. This is very beautiful for it's age. Now just curious, how did you find her? Backstories are always interesting!!!
Sweet looking piece!
U.S. Type Set
I guess 35

1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
Very nice!
Congrats on your New purchase.
On these coins the reverse is just as important to me as the obverse. Your reverse has outstanding detail remaining. Congrats!!
If you got that baby for 20 money, you did Good ! ! !

Nice - based on everyone else's thoughts, that baby is deserving of a gold sticker (because I hate thinking it may be cracked out of that OGH).
Missed that. Guess I need more practice. Nice coin for the grade though.
Very nice. Just ran the cert and looks like the coin has had a wild ride in the last year or so.
Thanks everyone. I loved the choco look of the coin while it was auctioned and had to jump on it. Thought it was really nice for the grade to boot.
Does anyone think the chunk in the shield on the back is holding this coin to a net grade at 20 or is that MA for these older pieces?
Very, very nice!

WOW! Killer coin! Looks xf to me
If you mean PCGS price guide 20 I got it well below that. It was in line with other 20s in recent sales. Happy with what I paid for it. Especially after the feedback in this thread.
That has to be the best VF20 ever.
I said XF40, which may have been a little ambitious, but dang.
Regardless of the grade it has tremendous eye appeal.

Agree with the XF 40.Net graded do to the small ding on reverse.
My thought when purchased was 30 and netted for the ding. But if that's the equivalent of a bag mark it would seem passable to me. But it was the chocolate color that made me gaga over it. I think the ding hides itself better in the dark tone.
Congrats @ACop You have good eye indeed
Based on the images, I can see the VF20 grade. And it was likely net graded.

OGH 20 ?
Beautiful example, I’d be proud to own it.
I agree with VF 20. Maybe it would get a 30 today but no higher imho.
Great surfaces and I love that OGH.

What factors do you think lower the grade? The shield hit? Or wear somewhere?
It's staying put in the OGH. If CAC ever starts accepting peasant dreck owner submissions I may send it over.
A combination of hits, pattern of wear and the inability to accurately evaluate the surfaces from the images. My caution is predicated on the images instead of the actual coin. In this instance, that is a distinction worth making.
