Add more light, using care to use the same temperature bulbs in each lamp, then set your camera's white balance. That should be quite simple using the owner's manual for the camera. These two things will dramatically improve your image quality.
Plastic should have very little bearing on your photos. Time to spend a lot of time with practice, the current shots need white balance and focus help. Then you need to spend time with lighting to get the best look of the coins.

I like the dark background...good job!
I like it whats the secret? Only if you want to share.
That's looking pretty realistic !
Do tell us about the camera and why it is successful at the referenced task. Thanks.
Very nice!

Those are very good pictures.... They would really stand out without tarnish

Way too dark and way too yellow.
Work on improving your photo skills.
What's your new setup?
A ways to go on what those could really look like. White balance seems off, images should be much much more sharp.
Not a bad start considering what your new camera setup is. I too would like to know what type of camera/setup are you using. Is it an SLR?
Taken through and old plastic holder.

There is a lot of room for improvement here.
