198(3)? Lincoln Cent Wrong planchet error?

A collector friend asked me to post these images with the hopes that he may have a wrong planchet error. The coin looks like it may possibly be a 1983-D. I'm guessing there is just too much damage done to make a clear call, but I defer to the error experts.

It's a banged up copper cent.
Not an error, not an off metal,
not a wrong planchet, nothing.
It's also not a 1983-D.
Its a 1981-D
for PCGS. A 49+-Year PNG Member...A full numismatist since 1972, retired in 2022
It's banged up real good and not worth anything numismatically.

...if it were a 1983-D the zinc core would have probably been exposed.

Thanks for the replies everyone. We thought it was a longshot, but what the heck.
