I just picked this up today, mainly because I found the '5' on the reverse interesting. I'm curious if this is a known counterstamp, and if so, who did it and what purpose did it serve?

The initials are a prepared punch so maybe some merchant was making up his own nickels. If it can be attributed I assume it would have some value.
Bump for the AM crowd.
This is not one I am familiar with. However, @EagleEye may have some information. Cheers, RickO
It is now. Thanks for the "bump."
