1858 Flying Eagle Cent- Is This A Known Counterstamp?

cmerlo1cmerlo1 Posts: 7,910 ✭✭✭✭✭

I just picked this up today, mainly because I found the '5' on the reverse interesting. I'm curious if this is a known counterstamp, and if so, who did it and what purpose did it serve?

The initials are a prepared punch so maybe some merchant was making up his own nickels. If it can be attributed I assume it would have some value.
