You could just be ahead of your time!

If you ever needed reassurance that your purchases are not stupid, and you are in fact, ahead of your time for paying ridiculous prices in this hobby, read the following article from 1860:
Alfred S. Robinson was a banker in Connecticut and an avid lover of US Coins. He actually commisioned die sinkers to produce high quality copies of many colonial coins that are very collectable in their own right today.
When Mr. Robinson bought that Higley Copper back in 1860 for $50, people probably thought he was nuts. Admittedly, that was a lot of dough back then. Adjusted for inflation, that's $1,432.73 in today's money.
But as the newspaper stated "he paid his money cheerfully."
As would any of us today at this price point! In 2018, a Higley copper in any grade is a five, maybe six figure treasure

Back in 1860 some guy had no idea he would be making me feel better about some of my purchases 158 years later....
Thank you Mr. Robinson!

This is the Newman Higley, I think one of the finest graded.
I had an electrotype that I couldn’t figure out which coin was the host until his cam to auction, then I knew
which one was my host coin.

Time is a wonderful money maker. I've paid stupid money for some of my coins but I have faith in them in the long term. What I buy is scarce and just doesn't come along in the conditions that they are in.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Very interesting, thanks for sharing !!!
I have long had an interest in the Higley coppers... never actually saw a real one. They are certainly scarce and fifty dollars today would be an incredible bargain. Dream on ..... Cheers, RickO
i liked that read. many thanks
A Fine-15 of this variety just traded at Heritage for $103,000 - I guess it’s outperformed inflation.
