I believe it was done with a lathe.
I guess ya gotta be really bored to use an expensive piece of equipment to cut pennies in half. Lol

It's 2 different cents. The turn them down and then fit them together.
Lol I have a two headed quarter done the same way. I thought they actually cut them in half though, not lathed them down.

Really bored or just a jokester...the important thing is... now you know.

I found a 1776-1976 Kennedy mated with the regular Kennedy shield/eagle reverse back when I roll hunted halves.
Made a pretty sizable void when milled out . . . Spy Coin?

Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
Several YouTube vids show it being done - remember the accuracy on a decent lathe is 1/1000th of an inch.

A friend, who is not a coin collector, gave me a large English Penny she had for years. As I examined it, it came apart in my hands... she had it for over forty years (her estimate) and never knew about it. Cheers, RickO
They cause me pain when they don't
separate easily like this one shown,
and the owners think they have a
$100K error coin.
