Discussion on a coin for sale

cccoinscccoins Posts: 294 ✭✭✭✭

I have been looking at a quarter for several years now that has traded a couple of times from dealer a to a customer to dealer b. Dealer b now has it on their site for sale. There is something about the strike that is interesting that I cannot figure out. It might add or subtract value once it is known. It is an expensive coin, and I would like opinions on what I am seeing. I would like to post a picture, but I don’t want to ruin dealer b’s chance of selling it if comments are negative. What should I do to get feedback, as i think that people will find the topic interesting, and I am sure that someone will solve the riddle of what I am seeing in minutes.

Thanks, and sorry if my post is confusing.

Not confusing. Ask a trusted forum member to evaluate the coin and forward the images to them.

For this coin, and in general, if you don't want to subject someone or something to public scrutiny that may include negative comments, don't post it in a public forum. Private messages to those whose opinions you want to hear would be the way to go.

I agree....Send link/pictures by PM or email to those who can help.... Hunches, or 'gut feeling' as we say in tactical training...is usually right...Let us know what you discover. Cheers, RickO

Also, if you post too many details here you run the risk of having someone else swoop in and snag it.

Be VERY careful discussing a coin that is not in your possession.

Do not post links or photos on an open forum or risk losing the coin.

Very good advice that should be heeded by all.

If you want opinions, post a link. I see no ethical problem talking about a coin for sale as long as it is not your sole purpose to bash the coin. It is a definite possibility that by pointing it out someone else may buy it. If, however, you would not buy it anyway without first getting the input of others, you may be no worse off.

From what I see, the coin may look very interesting, What's going on with the "D" in "Dollar?" >:)

To answer your question I need the denomination type date grade TPG. If this not question about whether it’s worth considering for investment why are we even having this conversation?

From the specifics you need to determine CDN Bid , CPG, and Bluesheet Bid. Next u need to view the coin and determine where it falls in the grade range. If it’s over $300 you need to view it sight seen like at a show, etc. Next what can you sell it for and make money Now? Do you have a buyer? The bids have been stagnant in many areas if not falling. So unless your going to retail it to a buyer your most likely going to lose money. It costs me 17 pct sales operate on eBay - doing the math I need a markup over cost of at least 1.37 to even make a meager 10 pct. so unless I can buy an item right with reasonable chance sell at that or higher no go for me.

I do agree one should not post photos of material they don’t own here or trash out sellers.

Here is a link to the true view. When you zoom into the right field it looks like I can see the part of the word liberty. Do people agree, or is this wishful thinking? If the right field has liberty, that might explain the unevenness in the left field.

I see something, it definitely wouldn't surprise me to see a clashed die from this time frame.

I did once in the forum and suddenly the coin was SOLD when I revisit the eBay seller (within minutes) but it maybe just a rare odd.
Back to the op subject...I am curious too.

Doesn’t look like “Liberty” to me. Something there but not sure what. Need to see the coin in hand.

Can you call the dealer and ask him?

  • KkathylKkathyl Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭✭✭

what it comes down to is what is it worth to you. If you like the coin buy it. Otherwise you should not interfere with someone sales potential as you indicate in your initial post. You have been watching the coin for years. Ask yourself if it is the coin you like or the price. if it is the price pass.

At PCGS price guide of $34k, I'd want to see it in person or sent to me on approval.
That is one heck of alot for one coin.
As for "Liberty" in the fields, I dont see it. Also, remember that most clashes would have the letters backwards

At first, I thought you were refering to this badly damaged quarter at auction next week:

My advice would have been not to bid.

I do see what you're referring to in the right field. It deserves in hand inspection.

In looking at the image it wb ok for me in filling the hole in the set. I would not want pay much above the 34,000 MV.

XF 45 a good grade collect I don’t c any glaring problem cause me back off if needing that issue especially such a low pop coin! MS 70 is perfect lol.
