A Question for North Carolinians

I just looked up the population of NC as a percentage of the US population and it comes to roughly 3%.
But approx. 10 % of my orders come from NC which seems like a really big statistical variance.
Is coin collecting much more popular there than in other states?
Just wondering what you North Carolinians are up to..........but, hey, keep doing it...and thanks for your support!

How many coins are you including in your population?
It's funny, but I have recently noticed several Illinoisans retiring and drifting out to NC, which I had never ever noticed in the past.
Spellchecker wanted me to write Illinoisans, when I would have added another 'i' after the 's'.
By any chance do you sell only NC state quarters and NC tokens?
NC is the home of the half-backs...people move to FL, hate it, and move halfway back, ending up in NC. I have a few friends in that camp.
I started noticing that NC orders were a disproportinate (sp?) number several years ago, and I started tracking by state two years ago to satisfy my curiosity about Tarheel orders.

TX and CA have the biggest percentage of orders, then NY, which seems logical, but then NC ?
The sample size is nearly 4,000 orders. I average about 150-200 a month.
I love North Carolina!
Interesting observation, I will have to keep it in mind.
NC also has several active, positive coin clubs. That might help.
For demographic comparison, look at the profile of coin collectors, then at the profile of NC residents. That will give you clearer insights that simple population percentages.
I retired to NC for a lot of the reasons mentioned above. You have oceans to mountains, reasonable climate (although the summers can get a bit hotter than I am used to). Plus low chance of many natural disasters if you stay away from the coast.
With respect to collectors, there are plenty of shows during the year so the population must be supporting the shows and the dealers.
There is a good contingent of retirees here - many with disposable income.

I can only speak for collectors in the Wilmington area. We have a very active coin club, the Lower Cape Fear Coin Club. Our annual North Carolina Azalea Festival Coin Show is coming up on April 14 & 15 where we draw in around 30 dealers and 700 people to buy and sell their numismatic items. See our website www.LCFCC.org.
Yes, we are half-way between New York and Florida so there are MANY Yankees re-locating to our area. North Carolina also has beautiful beaches on one side and awesome ski slopes on the other.
This has driven up housing prices in our area, but they are still relatively cheap in many locations. Many Floridians don't like to dodge hurricanes and want a change of seasons, so the Carolinas is one solution (of many). Fortunately we bought our house before the run-up.

There are shows, but not any really big ones. I don’t think PCGS and many of the big dealers have ever been here. It would be nice to have a annual large coin show for the half-backs.

Maybe some show promoters will see this thread and make it happen.
I'm glad I asked the question, as I had not heard the term "half-backs."
North Carolina has a big enough collector base to have a big show. The problem I see is the tug of war between the East and West to have the State show in their area. The attendance at the last state show was so horrible I will not be back as a dealer. It amazes me the Charlotte Coin Club can draw way more folks to their show than the NCNA can and always has in my 20 years of doing shows in NC!!
Home sweet home....

Absolutely beautiful!

One of my daughters lives in NC...just outside of Jacksonville... I visit fairly often... went to a coin shop in Wilmington...fairly large shop and I remember he had stacks and stacks of albums...Cheers, RickO

Has anyone been to the Carolina Coin Show in Concord? Does anyone know how many tables it has?
It is in the middle of no where so to speak! I did it last year....there were more dealers than customers! Read my post above! They say they are building a hotel nearby...last year the closest hotel or food for that matter was over 10 miles away. It is a nice venue...just not near anything yet!
I live here too and sell on ebay, but my numbers will be disproportional also, because I have a lot of customers who buy from me on ebay, then come by an pick them up. We only put out coins for sale on sat in the shop(when we have hired security) thru the week, we just buy.
Hi... I live in NC. What part of the state is your shop?
