Its time to give up on collecting when..........

..........you didn't see a raw toned Morgan you left out on the dinning room table cloth for 3 days
.
.
.
Going through the raw Morgan album and placing them in the black hard plastic Capital holders. I missed this one
for 3 days only to see it this morning simply because I opened the front door and saw something shiny in the daylight

What about you guys....lets hear some stories.

you pulled two raw major eye appealing error coins from your daughters birth year error set to get certified and misplaced them. Spent hours looking for them. Stashed away someplace or in the landfill, can't figure it out ......
misplaced one coin have no clue on where it is at

It's a good thing you weren't playing with Dimes!
I had a nice 1909 Lincoln that needed some light debris washed off. I got the 2x2 cardboard flakes and whatnot taken care of. I threw away the cloth.
Couldn't find the thing the next morning. Only place it could be was if I absent mindedly threw it away with the cloth. I dumpster dove for that thing and found I had thrown it away. Garbage came 2h later. Very glad I looked. Thought I was on a fools errand in the dumpster like an idiot. Turns out I was in the dumpster because I was an idiot.
On the dark side, which I posted before.
I sell old Mustang parts. I refurbish, among other things, bolt, nuts, etc. as some have very special markings, sizes, etc. and bring a lot of money. At a swap meet, I bought an estate sale 5 gallon bucket of hardware, and there were 10 +/- buckets out there, and it was cheap and heavy.
It went to the back of the shop, sat for maybe a year or so, before I got it ready to send out. When I dumped it out, there was $300 +/- FACE value in 90% and a few 40%.
I always wonder what was in the other 9 buckets.
Back in the olden times when I actually had a dial-up instead of cable internet, I dropped a silver eagle on the floor and it landed under my desk. Meant to pick it up, but was doing something else. It must have rolled under something as I occasionally vacuum and dust and what not. Well I had the cable guy finally come in to install cable and he found the silver eagle lying under the desk behind the leg of the desk. There was a thick layer of dust around the coin, but the coin itself didn't have any dust on it. The coin was green and mottled as it seemed to absorb the dust. After the cable guy left, I flipped the coin over and returned it to the floor where it had been sleeping hoping to get the toning equal on both sides. I set an alarm on my computer for 2 yrs in the future so I don't forget it's there, hence the no pictures.
Later, Paul.
Haven't bought anything in a long time.
Don't follow the Heritage Auctions like I used to, either.
Not ever gonna give up....just taking a much needed break.
I will come back strong....eventually.
Right now; I am enjoying reading, coin shows and participating on these boards.
I also like to enjoy and reflect on what I already have and have done.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

When you buy a coin for your collection just to find I already have two of the same date.
Been there done that.
Going through everything now I keep finding these, they seem to be in every nook and cranny ..... just 2 of many ....
@coinsarefun If you ever need anyone to clean your house let me know, I'll do it for free if I get to keep what I find...
This does not apply for T1 Buffs or 1921 Peace Dollars

When you can't see the date with your new glasses on.
"Its time to give up on collecting when.........."
... my doctor tells me.
He's had me give up on everything else.
"Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working" Pablo Picasso
I would your reason was because you only had 2 of the same date.
Dang, I can't remember if I ever did that! If I left a coin laying somewhere then it's probably still there cause I haven't found it yet.

A man goes to the doctor and the doctor says you don't have much longer to live.
The guy asks his doctor "How long?"
"Five" says the doctor.
"Five what?"
"Four", says the doctor.
"Four what?"
"Three.. two.. one."
Blindly put in a moon money bid on an Ebay auction. Won it for space station money and then realized that is only worth Everest money.
It's OK. I'm still utilizing ant hill money.
The bids aren’t going up....
After reading all the above........I don’t feel all that bad now

I have told the story here before... ten years ago I relocated across the country. When all came together, and I unpacked coins etc and finally had achieved some organizational state, I looked for my prize $5 Indian... could not find it. Looked and looked.. for a couple of years, finally figured I somehow lost it and perhaps even left it behind. Three years later, took out a large container of ammunition to get a specific caliber... while moving the containers within - SHAZAM!! There was my Indian, all safe and serene, looking back at me. I have never been able to figure out how it got there.... just happy it did ....Now I keep it close. Cheers, RickO
