local person seems to be spending old coins

A cashier at a local establishment I frequent told me yesterday, "We have a half dollar here, do you want it?" She knows I collect coins. I said sure. I look at it and say, "Nineteen.... Sixty Six?" And it's in relatively good condition:

I got another one today. 1967. They know the person that's spending them, and I think I've met him briefly. I'm going to need to buy some more half dollar flips.

It's always fun to get any type of silver at this stage in the game. Cool !

It is really nice when you have someone in a retail establishment that looks out for you.

If you know who he is, how about advising him as you would want to be advised if you weren't a collector.

    That's what I would do.

Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

Perhaps, since you think you know who it is, you should approach him and ask if he is simply 'salting' the coins to inspire interest, or liquidating an excess in his collection. Could be either one... Cheers, RickO

Excellent points, sellitstore and ricko. I think he comes in sometimes right before me. I'll mention it to the employees.

Clearly the only answer is to give the cashier your number for "the guy spending silver" and hope she calls in 3 days.

Maybe he is just a rich guy giving them away...like in the TV series the Millionaire.

I have heard of kids getting into daddy's stash and spending it.

I told them today. I think maybe the cashier is just going to keep them for herself now. :)

Today's was from 1984, and she wasn't at the cash register when I checked out, so I didn't get it anyway.

That was me...about 40 years ago...popcorn at school was 10 cents a bag...I bought the class a round. I was popular...for one day.

Excellent find, silver in the wild!
