As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm working on the half dime varieties as set forth in the PCGS Registry... I had my eye on an 1865-S RPD FS-301, but once again I had the thought to check my non-attributed coin first......

Sure enough it looks like I have one already. As I delve deeper into learning more about the half dime varieties I am discovering surprises right in my own collection. Here's some close-ups with varying light.

So, half dime guys.... I think I have an 1865-S RPD FS-301 here, do you agree?

    V-4 from PCGS CoinFacts.
Yes, it appears your coin is the V-4, aka FS-301.

Could you supply a reverse photo for confirmation?
You should find a pretty cool die crack there, from K10 to K4.

Cherrypicks in your own collection are pretty nice to find!

Looks to be right I think. The crack seems to fade off under the E in DIME, but maybe due to wear. It's PCGS VF25. The reference I was using didn't give the reverse die marker. Thank you!

I'm about to leave for work for the evening. I'll have to take it back out tomorrow for a closer look at that crack. Very interesting!
