1833 Capped Bust Dime Question: 10C/10C?
Hi all. I'm a frequent visitor to but first time poster on this forum. I'm also an avid but admittedly somewhat novice Capped Bust Dime collector. I have a question about an 1833 Bust Dime I recently purchased. On the reverse the 10C seems to be repunched(?). On the bottom of the "1" and the "0", and on the left and bottom of the "C", there is what appears to me to be some doubling. Also on the right leg of the second "A" in America the same thing appears. I have the Bust Dime Variety Identification Guide but this is not mentioned. I have also looked on various auction sites such as Ebay, Heritage Auctions, Stacks and Bowers, etc. but have been unable to find a coin with the same thing. So I am wondering what caused this to occur, is this common or uncommon, should I have the coin graded (VF35?), would PCGS even mention this doubling on the slab, what is the coin worth? I know, lots of questions, but I am curious to find out more about this coin. If any of the more experienced and knowledgeable Bust Dime collectors could give me some insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Would have to see a better pic, but from this pic it looks like machine doubling.
No mention of this in the literature I checked so strike doubled or worn die doubled IMO.
Thank you for your comments. Maybe this picture will help, better lighting.
@Tuckerbustdimes.... Welcome aboard.... It does look like machine doubling...That second posted picture is very good... Cheers, RickO
Hello Tucker, I've been looking at your coin since you
posted. I have to say it's pretty used, but fun to collect.
I believe your coin is an 1833 Capped Bust Dime that is
a JR-9 die marriage. Go to CoinFacts on this site & look at
the BustDimes for 1833 and click on the varieties line for
info & coins with JR-9. I don't believe any of them have the
markings you are interested in, except the "S" that appears
to be doubled on some of the coins. You may want to talk
to a dealer , or send it in for review. As others have said the
"C" & "A" seem to be machine doubling and some on the
Heritage Auction site have the same details.
If you have further questions for the Forum it would be helpful
if you could provide much closer, defined images with good
lighting of your pieces so we are able to see the details.
Everyone here are happy to answer questions so drop in often
and have fun with your collecting.
R.I.P. Bear
