Having some fun with collecting

It has been a while since I have posted anything about my adventures in collecting with my kids.
They have really enjoyed it and they have become coin hawks (that is what I call them) when it comes to any type of daily change.
They have found a few bicentennial quarters, wheat pennies, and others.
They also find more change on the ground than anybody I know. It is funny to watch them stop dead in their tracks and find a coin even if it is just a penny.
We found a couple of good ones the other day for the collection.
The picture is not a good one but we found a silver dime and an Indian Head cent at Wal-Mart the other day.
They were pretty excited to see them.
Anyways I just wanted to share since I have not been on in a while.

Always good to hear about sharing a hobby with the kids. Finds like those you show are great, but one can't help but think that someone's collection was basically discarded to make those finds possible.

That IHC find is amazing.... I have not seen an IHC in change since I was a kid.... Silver dimes turn up a couple times a year though.... Glad to see your having coin fun with the kids.... Of course they find more change on the ground... they are closer to the ground than you are :D:D Cheers, RickO

When grandma died, non executors ferried out buckets of change before we could change the locks. Turns my stomach to wonder what was in 80 years of coinage. Must've filled the bed of the truck and 2 trunks or more.

"Helping clean the basement" they said.. sickening..

The only solace would be if at least 1 young numismatist caught the bug.

When I was growing up and getting interested in coins (late 50s/thru the mid 60's) I can remember getting a lot of Buffalo nickles, Ben Franklin halfs, Mercury dimes an occasionally I'd get a Liberty half or quarter in daily change. I could still get a Silver dollar at the bank for a paper one dollar bill. I don't recall getting any Indian cents even back in the late 50's.

Very cool! I've "seeded" about 100 IHC's, mostly culls, into circulation over the last few years... Nice to see circulation finds of 100+ years!

Love finding coins like this in circulation - the IHC is a great find!
