'Racketeer' Love Token

I acquired this recently. It's dated 1883, has traces of gold plating or some kind of gold coloring, and a well-executed reeded edge. The gold in the reverse engraving indicates it probably was never used to deceive anyone being paid, but could it have been used to deceive the loved one it was given to?
"I made this for you from one of the new $5 gold pieces. I love you honey!"

Neat coin. No hole or mount, which is unusual.
I would speculate that it was in fact a Racketeer that someone turned into a love token and then replated. Or, a token made by someone who was also making Racketeer nickels. (This speculation is based on the reeded edge).
That reeding does look good.
That's a neat 'combo' piece.

Nice love token... and probably plated by - or for - the individual that had it made... since there are traces of gold in the engraving... likely done all at once and not a racketeer nickel... Also, since no hole or attaching device, possibly a pocket piece......Cheers, RickO
That is a cool looking piece.
Thanks for sharing it.
