Here is another really interesting coin. I am a big fan of die cracks and breaks. I came across this 1878-S Morgan VAM-46a at my favorite local shop. It's not graded, but I bought it for the incredible die break present on the left side of the wreath. This is one of the largest local breaks that I know of in the Morgan series that is not at the rims. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to buy it.
I took some detailed images of the die break, so you can see why I am such a fan of these kinds of things. I hope you enjoy.

MDS2 is one VERY weird break, in a oval like that.
would enjoy seeing the die in the various stages.

Interesting... there are a couple there... Now, if you can find a few more as it progressed, that would be unique... of course, it may have gone catastrophic very quickly too... Cheers, RickO

@Lew has done a magnificent job of doing a die state progression study on this particular die break. It was his study that inspired me to do the detail shots I did above.
