Another quick question about coin slabs

I've started using the Coin World Premier slabs for some large dollar type coins. This is my first time using any kind of slabs like this for loose coins.

The rubber/plastic circle that the coin goes into is VERY tight. Is this normal? Is there any way these cases can cause damage to a coin? It takes some force to get the coin in there.

I'm sure I'm just being paranoid, just want to make sure I'm not doing more harm than good by using cases like these.

Thanks!

Better tight than falling out. Just use cotton gloves when inserting.....or really clean hands.

I am just curious bob what could happen if you use no cotton gloves? Is the oils from our hands can it destroy the coin over long periods of time. TYIA

No cotton gloves can cause the famous toner fingerprints you see in some slabs.

Is it the finger print we try not to leave on the coin? What is the best tight raw coin holders?

Thanks! Yeah, I always use cotton gloves.
Was just curious about the pressure on the edges of the coins

Clean cotton gloves do not leave "fingerprints", fingers do.
No problem with pressure, will not harm.

CLEAN is the word. If any of you use cotton gloves you had better have a dozen pairs AND WASH THEM VERY FREQUENTLY! Ther are many different methods to put a coin into a hole, ring, or capsule. Sorry, I don't have time to expand so I will start a discussion.

On thin coins - 3 cent silver, gold dollars - too tight a ring will definitely risk damaging the coin.

For thicker items like nickels (unless there is a defect like a lamination) putting a 19.05mm coin in a 19mm opening shouldn't be a problem.

    What about a silver dollar?

Sorry to bring this back up,
So is there any risk with keeping a trade dollar in these coin world premier slabs? It's a hard rubber, and it takes some effort to push them in. I'm assuming pressure from rubber wouldn't do anything to silver, but I'm new to using slabs like this.

The slab opening is 38.1mm. Not sure the diameter of a Trade dollar.

I think coin world says Trade Dollars can be used in these.

Anyway, probably just being paranoid. Curious if the pros had any solid research on this :)

    Thanks guys!

The Trade Dollar diameter is 38.1 mm... so it is a transition fit.... tight, but no harm. Your coins should be well protected in those holders. Cheers, RickO
